Shanny's ego just can't let it go. It is kind of sad in a way. He was a genius for a time. The game moved on and left him. Just as it will move on and leave Belicheck and whoever the next "mastermind" is as well.
I'd love to see Shanny get one more shot. I agree though, he's about done. I loved that guy when he was with the Broncos. The play calling with him and Kubes was dynamite. I loved the bootlegs, the QB draws, everything they came up with was like magic. It was a well oiled machine that you never wanted to see end. Loved him!!! He was a great coach and a great man!!!
BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE
Not with the raiders Shanny! Come on man they have always been your enemy. Unless he hates them so bad that he plans a Josh McDoosh move??? Muaaahahahaha trade us Carr for a 5th rounder!

Forgot about SF, with whom Shanny has a MUCH better Bay Area record and relationship. Plus the roster's much better, and the De Bartolo's have proven they're anything BUT averse to shelling out for quality plalyers (so much it's why the NFL capped salaries) and giving quality coaches the freedom to succeed. Unless Shanny's gone potty, Oakland would have to outbid all the other far better options by the GNP of France to land Shanny. And taking could end his coaching career as surely as it would Foxs; that place is a resume-shredder.
Oh, valid point. I thought you meant all starters, you should take the time to be more descriptive, don't be shy. —Jaded

This just isn't true, though. The game of football is still the SAME GAME as it was 40 years ago. The game didn't "move on" from what the old coaches know. That's just factually incorrect.
If you want to say Shanahan just can't coach, ok. But don't make it for reasons that don't make sense.

But... no better way to get your 2 million dollars back than to work for the team and charge them 2 million more than anyone else.

It's demonstrably NOT the same game it was 40 years ago.
In the big picture, sure. There's 11 guys, and a ball, 100 by 53.5 yard field etc.
The rules are different. The enforcement of the rules is different.
But what's really different is how the game is played within all those constraints.
Could Shanny still coach up a team heavy on a zone-running scheme? Sure. But everyone knows how to defend against it now. Back in the mid to late 90's, nobody could stop it. Now every team runs some zone blocking concepts, and every team is aware of how to play against it.
Switzer could coach the SAME GAME in college today. . .problem is, defenses know how to defend against the wishbone.
Shanahan would be a great OC, but he just isn't a good HC/GM anymore.
So apparently they brought in Madden for the interview to help bridge the gap.

Woody Paige said on PTI that Shanny talked to him and said that he's willing to take himself away from the GM role for his next job. That would be an improvement, I think.
