Default Elway moves on even if he's always there for Broncos

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — As the man who all but single-handedly brought the Denver Broncos to prominence, John Elway will always have a place reserved with the franchise.

It’s just that as of couple weeks ago with the start of the 2023 league year, Elway for the first time in a while no longer holds a formal job position with the Broncos.

As his outside consultant deal was about to expire last month Elway initiated a meeting with Broncos’ first-year owner and CEO Greg Penner. The result was Elway amicably departed from the Broncos in a formal capacity, even if his presence will always loom large upon the franchise.

“I’ve enjoyed the relationship with the Broncos for a long, long time,’’ Elway said in an interview Tuesday with 9NEWS. “I told Greg I’d be happy to be a resource for him and help in any way that I can. I just wanted the flexibility. They’re in great hands. I still plan on being around to watch and be a resource for Greg or George (Paton) if I can.’’

Good one. Sounds like Elway needs to be on the NFL logo then!

I hope we still see plenty of John around the team, he’s the GOAT Bronco and a really strong argument can be made that he’s the NFL GOAT overall. No other player at his level has ever gone on to have the impact he has overall as an executive. There have been other players that did great as coaches or execs but none that had the impact as a player he did and some great players that went on to keep working in football but didn’t have the success at it John did as an exec.

Pretty damn special and I can’t imagine Bronco football without John Elway

And the team was at rock bottom, following a patriots style cheating scandal thanks to hiring then firing mcdouche, no QB, no real talent and Elway rides in - builds not one but two championship caliber teams first with offense and then defense all in a few years.

Even though Elway dedicated the next win to Pat, it was still all John with Manning taking a back seat to the defense built by Elway.

Dude was directly responsible for 3 Super Bowl wins. He just cemented his legend with me, and even the recent struggles were because he pushed all his chips in. I'd sell my soul all over again for that Super Bowl 50 win and I'm glad he did it for us!

Rehypothecation of the soul is tricky biz.

But since you are Catholic, I'll defer to your expertise.

Totally agree. I'd sell your soul for that win too.
I'll throw in your pancreas for central row 10 seats.
