Hey Can. I was watching this and man, I thought this would be fun as hell to talk about with Canmore.

I never had a music theory class. I was always too busy with math and science and computers. I really regret that. I also never took a typing class. I learned to peck programming. I really regret that too.
I played as much by ear as what was written.

I really wish I had learned guitar or piano.

It's great that with music you can either just play or you can nerd on theory, both work.

I actually used to listen to a lot of contemporary jazz. Not so much traditional. I'm a big fan of guys like Paul White, Rick Braun, Wayman Tisdale (RIP), Keiko Matsui, etc. Been years since I 've listened to any of it, but when I used to listen to it with my dad I really liked it.

I have virtually zero knowledge of Jazz musicians or artists but do enjoy the genre when i have heard it. Cant really add much to this thread but am glad you guys are talking a bit about it. Always fun to read peoples thoughts and passion for music regardless (except rap or country) if its not metal or rock related. Anyway, thats my contribution to this thread so carry on gents.
Paul White is really good. Or was. I don't know. It's been many years since I've listened to that stuff. My dad was a big fan of The Rippingtons and I went to a few concerts of theirs with him. Their percussionist was insanely good. I also liked Jesse Cook a lot. He's a hell of a guitar player. You'd never know by listening to him that he's a Canadian.

I listen to a lot of country too, but it's not the typical radio type. I listen to a lot of off stuff that isn't as popular like Turnpike Troubadours, Canaan Smith, Cody Jinks, Whiskey Meyers, Whitey Morgan and the 78s, Koe Wetzel, Pecos and the Rooftops, etc. I think people call that "Red Dirt Country", but I'm not sure. Also a big Colter Wall fan.

I've always wanted to learn Jazz Piano, would have been so much more fun than classical which I did to a fairly advanced level.
My son asked my youngest granddaughter (4) if she wanted to play piano like her elder sister. She gave him a black look and firmly replied "guitar and drums!"
