But outside of that i like the picks and positions.
The problem is, after next year Welker is gone. At least, he will be getting pretty
long in the tooth by then. By cashing in on this deep WR class now, the Broncos
would have the draftee groomed to take over by then and not have the expense
of picking up a quality receiver in FA. And because of the nature of his position, a
good receiver could be immediately upgrading the depth. So I'm in agreement with
where Assassin's selecting a WR. That's my thinking, anyway.

It's his first round selection I mildly disagree with. I would go with Yankey if he's
still on the board or the center from CSU (still can't think of his name ).

While i agree that Welker will be gone soon i dont think that means we have to worry about that position at this moment unless you think DT is going to walk. The reality is we need to draft players who can contribute more now and taking a receiver that high is a luxury, not a necessity. Im not sure why people think you have to draft a player just because it happens to be deep. This offense will still be potent without a receiver taken as high as Smilin has taken one. As i said, i dont mind any of his other picks and wouldnt be opposed to taking a WR later on in the draft. If the draft really is deep like you said than taking one that early really makes no sense. We just have far bigger needs on this team (this year) than we do for the future post Manning. Personally, if we take a WR early like this i will be pretty mad because we would of just been better off keeping Decker who was already familiar with the offense and had chemistry with the QB's.

If we get a WR in rounds 2-3, that tells me he is a solid prospect with maybe one flaw (hands, speed, injury prone, etc). You can groom him this year to replace Welker next year while Sanders takes Decker's role for about half what Decker is gettig paid. Then after Manning retires, you have the nucleus of a good receiving corps for Ozzie. Sure, you could try a dark horse later in the draft and I'm all for letting the talent come to you so you can snatch up an unexpected faller at a different position you didn't think would be available. We have needs at OL (high), WR (high), CB (high), S (low), MLB (low) and RB (low). High-low represents when these positions tend to go in the draft. Good ILBs, RBs, and Ss can be found on the third day. OL, WR and CB you try to get on the 1st or 2nd day.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

And I think you are basing how good he is off of stats. If you decided to watch then you would see that he did actually struggle a bit against physical press coverage and making contested passes. I didn't say he was shut down against it either, so don't try to go overboard. Also you claim that robinson has just as good size/speed/ball skills as top 10 wr in the nfl, Demaryius Thomas?! And you said I'm the one reaching

Yes, roby's 2012 year was spectacular, but that "down" year that you claim that was still pretty damn good is a load of crap. Roby was beat way too often especially on double moves and will be picked on often by the broncos' opposing QBs. Roby looked like a completely different player in 2013. I understand that you want him drafted because of his 2012 year but I would feel way more comfortable drafting Kyle Fuller whose production was excellent last year and has fewer red flags in his film.

Robinson might be the best route runner out of the entire WR class and has some of the best hands. The only real knock on him is straight line speed.

That being said...no chance in hell he's available at our 2nd pick.

I don't like the Roby pick - he is going to get burned big time by the intelligent QB's in the NFL. Can't lose your man for 1 second in the NFL. He reminds me of a less aggressive Deltha O'Neal - just has a real bad sense for where his man is.

Do you watch college football? Less aggressive Deltha O'Neal? Silk, we get that you don't like the pick but at least bring an intelligent argument to the table as to why he was a bad pick. He was the most physical of the corners in the first round of this draft. The guy brings the hammer every time he gets the chance. He got kicked out of a game for a hit on a 6'7 265 pound TE that played for Iowa this year. He's also very good in run support.

Corners cover. That's their number one job. The physicality is a good thing if they can stay with their man. It sounds like you're describing a very good safety. Roby isn't a terrible pick - he was the 5th CB taken while we picked at 31 where there weren't alot of dynamic players left when you're talking 1st round talent. He probably was picked right around where he should be - like what's been said by others, the guy is a prospect work in progress and he has some things he doesn't do well in the context of the NFL. He will have time to learn and the opportunity to get better and develop into a solid player.
