Default Damian Lillard on Portland's head coach opening: 'Jason Kidd is the guy I want'

Damian Lillard’s top preference to become the next head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers is Los Angeles Lakers assistant Jason Kidd.

“Jason Kidd is the guy I want,” Lillard told Yahoo Sports on Friday night.

Lillard intends to have significant input on the next hire, sources said.

The Trail Blazers and Terry Stotts parted ways on Friday, opening up a coaching vacancy that has been occupied for nine seasons. The move was proceeded by a first-round exit issued by a depleted Denver Nuggets squad.

He should just force his way out to LA if he wants that.

Default Jason Kidd says he won't vie to fill Portland Trail Blazers' head-coaching vacancy

Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Portland Trail Blazers head-coaching vacancy, he told ESPN on Sunday morning.

"Portland's a first-class organization and will have great candidates for its head coaching job, but I've decided not to be one of them," Kidd told ESPN. "Whoever they choose will have big shoes to fill from Terry [Stotts]."

Kidd was ultimately uncomfortable with the idea of pursuing the opening after Blazers star Damian Lillard publicly called for his hiring within hours of Stotts' departure on Friday night. The public nature of Lillard's endorsement -- telling Yahoo Sports that "Jason Kidd is the guy I want" -- left Kidd feeling he would put both Lillard and Portland's process in an awkward circumstance should he pursue the opening.

Durant - best player in the NBA.

Giannis - most overrated player in the NBA (he didn't deserve his second DPOY or MVP, if we're being honest). I knew he wasn't interested in winning when he resigned with the Bucks.

Clippers are the only team who can hope to defensively stymie the Nets.

Joker - best all around player in the NBA.

Based on this criteria, whats the difference between the best player and the best all around player?

One guy has the better all around game, but you'd take the other guy over him because his game, even if less well-rounded, is still more overall effective.

Joker will probably be the best player in the game by the middle/end of next season.

Who the **** is voting for Rudy Goburgt to get DPOY? I don't care if you're a big, if you can't rotate onto a guard and hold your own you're not DPOTY! Everyone who voted for him on that is a loser hack and should be fired.

JFC! Do they even watch the games? How many times do you need to watch this man get sonned by an all-star big, or blown by a guard? God dammit. This ******y is absurd! How dare they!

John Hollinger who is one of the smartest analytics guys in basketball and who helped build the Grizzlies team who made a conference finals disagrees with you. He in fact said recently that Gobert's defense is so important to that team it makes him overall one of the most valuable players in the league.

Also, you're maybe picking the worst possible time to make this argument since he just saved game 1 by going out to the 3 point line and swatting away a possible tying 3 at the last second.

He is a respectable man, but unfortunately I've seen this guy be overrated for too many years. I also have seen too many analysts and even educated fans point out his obvious defensive flaws.

If you switch and he's now on a guard, he's toast. He routinely gets battered by all-star bigs - he's a good defender in a good defensive scheme which inflates his actual worth

He's also getting the Hines Ward treatment by the media, which is also annoying

Good grief - Kevin Durant's 'personal bodyguard' ran on the court to break up fight with Bucks' P.J. Tucker: report
