I think it’s fine. Also, let’s not give Elway and Fangio any chance for camp “competition” or any other such nonsense that we’ve seen in the past.
There is something like a 50% chance that a team's backup QB will have to start at least one game in any given year. Obviously you'd like for that not to happen, but it's just negligent not to prepare for it. KC and NO both benefited last year from having competent backups. And not having one sunk the Steelers. It matters.
I don’t think Cam Newton is veteran depth. He had an injury last year and he’s coming back. I think the only reason he hasn’t been signed is because no one could do a physical, and now most teams have their starter.
Who’s the team that needs a starter right now? Maybe San Diego? Maybe New England? But they have the young guy in place in both places.
The timing was just really bad for Newton.
