Yeah it's entirely possible that Paton is both not a fan of Lock and also doesn't see the value in this draft in moving up to 4. One thing we've seen from Paton this offseason is he won't overpay for a player, which I think is a great trait.

Paton was never going to force anything. Hell the man said it himself, we’re not going to force anything at the QB position because fortunately for us we have a quarterback

After what Miami got for trading with San Francisco, and after what Detroit got for Stafford, it would be foolish for Atlanta not to listen to every offer from QB desperate teams. I think when it is all said and done, Lance or Fields will be sitting behind Matt Ryan next year.

...Of course, after seeing the price, it would be foolish for Denver to be anywhere near a deal giving up multiple future first round picks. Paton has been a personnel guy in the league for awhile, and nothing in his background suggests that he will mortgage the team's future

So where or when do you get a QB then? The market is set, you deal with it or you end up with Case Rypien or Garbage Minshew. The Broncos won’t be anywhere near the lottery moving forward, it’s now or never ... shit or get off the shitter time.

Atlanta is trading or pitts. No qb for them
    The Plan at the moment:

Draft: Trade a 3rd and 6th this year to a team to move up and get a 2nd next year (this will happen).

    Players I want:
Jake Ferguson (Jake Butt) or Jelani Woods or Jeremy Ruckert or Cade Otten (owen daniels) at TE- All 4th rd or later.
Troy Anderson LB 3rd/4th rd (yay Timmy!)
Neil Farrell, JR DL- run stuffer- bye purcell

(Depending on cost) Absolutely, you can never have enough interior pass rushers, even if Richardson would only be capable of 4 to 6 sacks at this point in his career.

4 to 6 sacks from Richardson, Harris and Jones would be tits.

i still think they should roll the dice on malik hooker. . . low cost, potentially high reward. . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

I think Paton is more interested in upgrading Case Rypien then Lock at his point. I think we are smoke screening the crap out of this to entice a trade in our favor. If Fields or Lance is at 9 it wouldn't shock me to see us draft them, but I think we trade back this draft or stay put and take the guy we want for T, LB or CB. I think Lock will get his chance for the year and his backup will be a 3-5th rd. pick who probably beat out Case Rypien in training camp for number 2 duties. Someone like Mond or Newman for example. If we miss out on a upgrade for Case Rypien that's where I can see us looking back into the cheap vet FA pool. I Don't like Minshew but its hard to argue he isn't a upgrade over Case Rypien as a back up.
    Denver's 2024 George Paton Draft/FA plan

    Draft
    RD1- TE Brock Bowers, GA
    RD3- QB Spencer Rattler, SC
    RD4- CB Josh Newton, TCU
    RD5- S Reggie Pearson, OK
RD5- C Michael Jurgens, Wake Forest
RD6- K Jonah Dalmas, Boise St

So with Alex Smith retiring - that all but guarantees that the only QB(s) the Broncos will add this offseason will be via the draft or trade. At least, I hope so...

Don't count out a Bridgewater draft day trade

I still think Paton was all in on Watson and now we're left kinda holding the bag and taking the leftovers/hoping for Lock to take the leap.
