Default What is the deal with Jake Butt?

I really have not been following his progression if there is any. I was excited at the time when he was drafted FOR FUTURE value. The fact that I am not hearing any sort of hype or anything at all is a bit concerning.

How is he coming along. He is making the team, right?

He’s #2 on the depth chart and is progressing just fine. He’s just been outshined by Jeff H.

He's absolutely making the team. But Jeff IRMan finally got healthy and started playing like a beast.

Yes, definitely making the team and looking good. It looks like he'll be listed as the #2 TE on the depth chart but I expect him to get his fair share of reps during the games given he seems to be the best receiving TE. Heuerman seems like the better all around TE at this point and has also looked pretty good himself. Given the improved play of the OL I expect to see Denvers TE's get more involved with catching the ball instead of pass blocking. Just my take.....

I'd actually have to debate the "best receiving TE" status. That's not a knock on Butt, more that Heuerman has been amazing as a receiver this pre-season and if he keeps it up, is going to be fun to watch.

    That freaking stiff arm lol.

There’s a reason Jeff was drafted in the 2nd round.

Agreed. That stiff arm and throwing the defender like a rag doll got the high fives rolling in my living room lol
Heuerman seems to be the more rounded player but both he a Butt seem to have great hands. The TE position looks strong again in Denver.

Yea, the two positions I was most worried about (TE and QB) seem solid this year. The positions I wasn't worried about (CB and Safety) look slightly more suspect.

Butt is way better than IRman, but IRman has been playing amazingly (for him anyway). Butt has been used more as the blocker and IRman as the receiver. Both have obviously mixed but that is why you have not seen Butt a ton because he has been blocking. He will be our best TE eventually, but he needs a year at least to get back to form, get his strength back and figure out the game.

He should have a real nice season for us. Even better next year!
    The Plan at the moment:

Draft: Trade a 3rd and 6th this year to a team to move up and get a 2nd next year (this will happen).

    Players I want:
Jake Ferguson (Jake Butt) or Jelani Woods or Jeremy Ruckert or Cade Otten (owen daniels) at TE- All 4th rd or later.
Troy Anderson LB 3rd/4th rd (yay Timmy!)
Neil Farrell, JR DL- run stuffer- bye purcell

I don't want to hear about the labor pains - just show me the baby. This position is shaping up to be another major deficiency for us this year.

Yes, the reason he was drafted in the 3rd round is because no one drafted him in the 2nd round.

I’m not on the Heuerman train, and I don’t like how this offensive coordinator uses tight ends. Butt would be a weapon if used right; maybe he’s not quit healthy yet.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.
