I’m going to argue this. On one premise, a useless character is a character who doesn’t drive the plot forward not a character we dislike.

In the case of Howard, he’s literally the entire movie. The movie might be pointless and bad, but the character isn’t useless to the movie. Jar-Jar may be annoying and bad, but he is the senator who votes to give Palpatine full control of the Republic, setting into motion the overarching plot line for at least seven other movies.

*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

I agree with MO. A pointless character is an interesting ornament that provides no structural support.

You can argue all you want but you would be wrong about how useless he was.

Useless isn’t the word you want to use.

And speaking of guitar man he had a great job. He is a world class motivator for his crew and keeping the pedal to the metal. Music choice is essential to a great working environment.

You are, in so many ways, intellectually smarter than I am. But, when you type shit like this, I sometimes wonder if that means I'm a ******* moron.
