He was 77% from UNDER 40 this year. That's horrible. I guess I just blocked this season out in my mind because I really don't remember him being THIS bad.

I can't believe Maher is still getting tryouts after completely getting the yips this year. Give me literally anyone else over him.
Okay lets chill a bit....he was 6-7 from 20-29 with a blocked kick, he was 4 of 6 from 30-39 with a block and 1 miss. he was 10-10 from 40-49, and he was 5 of 13 from 50-59, Again the 50 yd kicks are in part because our offense sucked so bad as well. His longest made was 55, and he was 27 of 29 on XP's. He didn't have a bad season, but it wasn't good either it was certainly abnormal for him. His attitude about distance kicks then going 5 of 13 was a big issue last year for sure. Its not a big deal to move on from him, but he is a solid kicker overall, which is more then I can say for what's out there on the market. The timing of us moving on is what's f'in stupid.

I'll probably have to look game by game to get home away splits from 50+, but his overall home/away splits last year was 72% at home, 83% on the road.
And sorry, I don't care how you frame it, 77% from 40 and under is awful. Just really, really bad. Blocked kicks are partially on the kicker. You have to elevate the ball to avoid that.
And 2 missed XPs is bad too. No excuse to ever miss those. It's a 35 yard kick from right down the middle.
Ultimately, I think his contract is why he is gone. On the cheap, he's a better option than anyone else available. But for 5 mil a yea cap hit, you can't have a kicker that bad. If you're gonna have a shitty kicker, have a shitty kicker on a minimum contract.
You’re worried about Timing? With a mediocre player with a overinflated ego? They probably gave McAnus this long to take a pay cut commensurate with his performance and he refused. Bye Felicia.

Really he landed on a team asap. Good news for him and best of luck. Bad news you need a new kicker asap.
May Day and Spring Fever!
Has anyone thought about champ Bailey as a kicker?
