So Boise St only got 2 timeouts that whole game? Someone in their athletic department should have been fired for letting that happen if that's the case.

The uniform struggle is real!

The issue is contrasting numbers. A lot of those jerseys have numbers that blend in too much which could cause probs for the opposing teams and the officials.

I found an example of a team losing 4 timeouts because of it. This article seems to imply that they could have changed jerseys, though, if they brought extras. Perhaps the writer was mistaken, though?

They can change them.

Reading that articles makes that kinda seem like NCAA incompetence though. New rule two years ago, FAMU wears those unis all season without incident last year, then this year they suddenly penalize them out of the blue. Seems like the NCAA could have communicated things a little better with schools to avoid that happening.

They did. The schools were very aware of the rule. They got a two year grace period because of the expense of buying new uniforms. After two years, it’s on them. We’re doing the same thing in TX.

What was the problem with the jerseys? How are they out of compliance?

Those jerseys are pretty damned ugly.

On TV they looked like the same color as the field, which is what I think the rule references.
