Default Nebraska and Oklahoma sue Colorado over marijuana legalization

Two neighboring states are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down Colorado's laws legalizing recreational marijuana.

Nebraska and Oklahoma filed the lawsuit directly with the nation's highest court on Thursday. The two states argue that, "the State of Colorado has created a dangerous gap in the federal drug control system."

"Marijuana flows from this gap into neighboring states, undermining Plaintiff States' own marijuana bans, draining their treasuries, and placing stress on their criminal justice systems," the lawsuit states.

I thought this was going to be about the Sooners and Cornhuskers losing their best recruits...

My understanding is that there is a recall initiative for the next election which has a good chance of winning so this suit can be a moot point unless it is actually an interstate money grab.

From a 9 News story in October:

Marijuana advocates are fond of noting that marijuana got more votes than President Obama did in Colorado during the 2012 election, with 55 percent in favor.

However, recent polling has appeared to show at least some degree of regret. A USA Today/Suffolk University poll last month found that 50 percent of voters now disagree with the decision to legalize pot, while 46 still agreed with the policy.

A vote on repealing legal marijuana could be forced in one of two ways: a two-thirds vote of the state legislature, or a signature-gathering petition.

The relatively low number of voter signatures required (currently 86,000) to force a vote on issues was a major factor in making Colorado the first state in the nation to legalize cannabis sales to adults, drawing some state lawmakers to advocate for a higher number of signatures for ballot initiatives that would amend the state constitution.
I'll admit as an outsider that the repeal process is not as far along as I had been led to believe but would not be surprised if it show up on a ballot eventually.

The petition process is already underway:

Lol! Anyone can start a petition on change.org, and that only has 25 supporters. I had ten supporters to get me unbanned from here, and the mods didn't listen. So why would the government listen?

Thank you for writing to me and for your engagement in the legislative process. Amendment 64 was put into our constitution by a citizen's initiative. In order to change Amendment 64 the issue would need to be put to the citizens for a vote. This would require support by 2/3 of the members of the House and Senate and this level of support does not exist among the elected officials. Thus, to change this citizens would need to collect signatures for a ballot measure to allow the citizens to vote on whether to repeal amendment 64 or not. Sincerely, Senator Irene Aguilar
Also a direct response from a senator.
