    Default Did you miss me?

Our internet was down completely for about a week. I'm not sure if any of you heard, but our main comm cable that runs through the Mediterranean was cut. We were completely restricted from internet use for about three days, then .mil and .gov sites were allowed for a couple of days before .edu sites were allowed. Yesterday our restrictions were lifted completely.

    I miss my BroncosForums.

    Welcome back SR

3 days without internet in 2008 is like 3 days without food in 1986...

I didn't have internet for about a week. I got so used to not having it that I almost didn't know what to do when it came back.

Though, I did get a lot of work done in the mean time.

What do you think? Did you miss me?

I thought you were on your way home already. I looked for a "see ya around" thread, but when there wasn't one of those on your behalf...I thought maybe you were banned....I checked "banned thread" and when you weren't listed on that....I thought you got ticked off and went to another board. See how optimistic I am SR? Good to see you.

And HOW did your main communication line get cut? Accident? War-related?

They say the comm lines were cut by an anchor on accident. Two of them were completely severed from what I understand. We were borrowing internet from the Saudis, satellites, and other various redundant resources that we had, so they didn't let us get on any .com, .net, .org, etc websites just for operational security reasons. It was complete chaos for about two or three days when we had absolutely nothing but our local intranet and e-mail. The Air Force has become really dependant on the internet for a lot of her programs, so when something like this happens everything kind of freezes.

Of course I missed you Jody!

I'm not on my way home yet...got a couple more weeks.

Why does that line scare me? Here I'm imagining all of this top-secret type of room with a whole bunch of guys sitting in it regulating the AF's very own special satellite communications via Star Wars from space or something. This news in orange is very anti-climatic SR.

When I say internet, I mean reliant on an internet connection, not necessarily the www internet. A lot of our programs are web and LAN based, so once we lose connection, it causes a bit of chaos.

The building I work in for the most part requires at very least a secret security clearance to be in here, otherwise you have to be escorted. Anytime someone without a secret clearance or the proper 'need to know' comes in here, we have to turn our SIPRNET (secret) computers off, etc. I've got two more weeks of desk flying left, then I get back home and start turning wrenches full time again. Woo hoo!

Those phrases secret clearance and secret computers are 'comforting'.

So, will you be having a filet or T-bone when you get back here first?

Plans for visiting the desert in the USA anytime soon?

Neither. I'll be having an 11oz Sirloin from Texas Roadhouse and BEER!

I'm not going to make it back to AZ probably until late June, maybe May. I'm going to try to take leave, but not sure. My son and my new 'interest' both will be in AZ, so I've gotta get out there ASAP.

Yeah, heard about those 3 cables. All our customers from India and the East were on the phone moaning about getting kicked off poker tournaments!

Hello? Your internet connection is BROKEN!

Anywho, glad to see you back!

Thanks, BFF #2. I'm glad to be back. Hopefully these next two weeks go by fast because I'm in shut down mode and ready to be home.

Home already? Is that the end of your deployment or just leave?

Already? This is my fourth four month rotation out here. I left home October 14th.

It's going to be the end of my deployment. I'll be back here in June.

4 months? Wow, it seems like just last week you left. Your family will be happy to see you!

Stay safe these next few weeks!
