I'm very careful about condoning anyone for charges such as these.
I had a friend that took pictures of girls in a TANNING booth... and the feds charged him with "manufacturing child pornography" because 3 of the girls were just under 18. They proved he didn't take the pictures home, didn't post them on the net, and didn't send them to anyone. All the pictures were on the computer at his store. MINIMUM 15 years. Why? Because when you fall into a catagory within a federal charge, there isn't wiggle room for the judge to even help you. The judge himself said he was "sick" that he had to sentence him to 15 years when he just sentenced a rapist to 5.
Now the guy will always have that on his record..a "Manufacture of child pornography".. and will always have to register as a sex offender. If he ever has a family, he'll never even get to go to the kid's baseball games or school plays. If you guys read that charge, you would be calling for him to be hanged, shot, stabbed and executed. Just goes to tell you that things are as simple as they read.
So I don't read some charge and "plea" (believe me when I say, the plea doesn't mean SQUAT when determining innocent and guilt)and simply believe I know what the real situation is.

I know that miscarriages occur - 17 year old guy has a 16 year old girlfriend who sends him a topless pic on her cellphone and the kid gets nailed for kiddie porn - and is now a registered sex offender in this state no different than if he buggered 7 year olds. Ridiculous miscarriage of justice, no question about it, and the laws ought to be smarter. Thats not what we're talking here though, and this SOB needs hanging IMO

was a female employee. She found the pics and was pretty disgusted by what my friend had done. I can't say I don't blame her for that, it was pretty disgusting.
But then... some feel that anytime you do something wrong, you need to "have the book thrown at them." I hear it all the time. "They should throw the book at 'em." Well, they did. The sad thing is, the ways the laws are written for sex offenders... if he would have raped the girls, he would have gotten 1/3rd the time.
Hell, the average murder sentence is 7 years. But take a picture of a girl in a tanning booth, and you get 15

Comprehension is a bitch:
The sexual abuse he suffered as a boy were those pics of him sexually involved with another child. Not pics of him as an adult with a child. That's the problem with taking one sentence out of context.Cossey, a longtime rescue squad worker, told the judge he was a victim of sexual abuse as a boy. Photos of him and another child involved in sexual acts were taken, Cossey said.

Why? As long as he is well monitored, why not? You are saving the tax payers thousands of dollars by not having to house and feed him in jail
personally i think the whole put people in federal prison for viewing a ******* image is ludicrous.
immoral? yes. disgusting? yes. deserving of a prison sentence? not hardly.
since when do people go to prison for being immoral? if that's the case then every politician in this country should be in prison too.
the only reason they put people in prison for simply looking at cp or possessing it is because they can't catch the sick ****s that are making it and photographing it, so they go after the people downloading it or buying it.
pretty soon things will get so bad, that just because you possess a lighter that'll mean you're planning on burning someone's house down, or because you drink a lot of caffeine you're about to go on a drug binge because the caffeine isn't enough and that you're about to commit some violent crime, and they'll lock you up.
I look at legal porn, but that doesn't mean I'm going to go out and rape someone, so where is it, that this government has gotten the idea that if someone is viewing child porn that they are suddenly a risk to go out and hurt a child....to me that's like putting someone in prison for something they might do...but haven't actually done yet. Seems there was a movie about shit like this (albeit in a different scenario)....ah...yes I remember now...Minority Report with Tom Cruise.
yet a guy can kill someone in cold blood and he gets 6 or 7 years in prison, or a guy can beat his wife and kids and he gets 2 years. Or (and this was my best friend several years ago) can get 14 DWI's in a row, and not serve an ounce of jail time until he received the 14th one and he only does 16 months on a 5 year term. but a person looks at a wrong image and off they go for 5-10 years, they have a felony conviction, they can no longer get a decent job and provide for themselves when they get out, they're required to register as a sex offender and the system that's supposed to rehabilitate people, is actually the same system the destroys lives further than they already are.
It's become apparent that the legal system in this country has become a farce, and D.A's, Judges, and lawyers are all about throw him/her away in prison and forget about him/her, so they can pad their public image, make themselves look good, and get elected to office on the next tier level. Let's not try to help these people, let's just lock 'em all up and the taxpayers can foot the bill.
I agree that the people making it and actually exploiting children should go to prison, but if it's just someone who's downloaded it and looked at it, then they obviously need some counseling and some help, but prison's a little extreme for looking at a ******* picture. Looking at pictures doesn't make you do anything.
Guess just because I have a picture of a Shelby GT500 on my wall which is a car I clearly can not afford, means I'm about to go out and steal one, so I should just be locked up because I look at that poster and think "man the fun we could have together if I only had enough money".
