I think that humans are intrinsically inclined to understand rythm. Some of us just had more practice when we were young, and/or some just pick it quicker than others.

It just takes a ton of practice, and with guitar you have to build up your caullouses on your fingers, and train your muscles to get the fingerings right etc. This adds a layer that you don't have to deal with with most instruments.

Lots and lots of practice is the key.
    Cool.

Well, I think I'm going to buy a guitar for my birthday next month.

Rhythm is a dancer, it's a soul's companion, you can feel it everywhere. Lift your hands and voices, free your mind and join us, you can feel it in the air.

Go for it. Just be prepared to put in the time it takes to practice, or you'll have an expensive piece of furniture sitting in the corner. You almost have to make a schedule and actually schedule in the time to practice.

DC...I like the Guitar Pro program once you've learned to start playing. Metronome, fretboard and keyboard to help you visualize what you're playing. I just discovered it and wish I had it 10 years ago when I started to teach myself. I just used the chords I learned from my mother and a chord book and some old Beatles songs that my mom had transcribed out. I still don't read music very well, I used to and got out of the habit of it, but I'm working on it - that and learning my scales again...I got lazy with all of it, and now I wish I hadn't...

This doesn't really "teach" you to play, but I've found it valuable now that I know all my basics...

*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.
