I get Serena's grievance which was she was being docked pts because she challenged the ref. While everyone knew that McEnroe acted like a baffoon on the court i cant recall him being docked pts for his antics. Either way, the temper tantrum that Serena displayed was equally embarrassing and it was totally unfair of her to do that and (in her words) steal that moment from Osaka.

Way to completely miss the point. No one has said the treatment was sexist because it hurt her against that particular opponent. That would clearly be a stupid argument.

I agree that the blow-up after getting the game penalty was over the top. But if you watch up until the moment she was given that penalty, nothing she said or did was really that egregious at all. She wasn't cursing, wasn't yelling, nothing. She called him a thief, yes, but that's just so incredibly mild compared to some of the stuff you hear players yell at umpires it's just ridiculous she was given a game penalty for it. Equally as ridiculous as the first two penalties for coaching and racket smashing which both happen in damn near every match and never get called.

Calling a ref sexist in the middle of a match because you are losing is simply desperation. I’d say replace the male ref with a female one in the future, but that would be sexist too. Oh the wokeness of it all.

McEnroe was defaulted from the Australian Open once for his antics.

To be fair, his antics leading up to that default were much worse than anything Serena did. He was taunting the line judges to their faces and cursing out the umpire. I can guarantee you he's never been defaulted from a match or given a game penalty for anything as mild as the way Serena acted up to the point she was given the penalty.

I was only pointing out to North that his statement of "I cant recall him being docked pts for his antics." needed a memory boost.

McEnroe got docked points all the time. Also got kicked out of the Australian open. Players get warned and docked all the time, both genders. What they don’t do is then berate the umpire for four games straight and get a warning, a point deduction and then a game deduction because they just won’t stop.

Meanwhile, while she’s calling the umpire a liar and going on and on about how she doesn’t cheat, her coach admits to coaching her, live, on camera. So, she was lying too.

    It was a pathetic display.

PS - I have no dog in this fight. Didn't watch it, haven't watched any replays. I find it "interesting" that points were given/taken in a finals match though.

    Mild?

She got a warning, which is all it was, then blew up at him. Then, a game later threw her racket, which after a warning, is always a point deduction for any player. You can’t throw your racket at the court. Then she wouldn’t shut up.

Points are taken all the time for throwing rackets. The game misconduct is the unusual one, mostly because players stop after getting a warning and a point deduction. She didn’t.

I get it, and believe she (probably) deserved the point deduction. I didn't watch it, nor do I have a desire to, so I can't really comment on it more.
