I have no idea what just happened during this women's final because I just got home.
Serena is a legend but i'm glad the new girl won.

I guess Serena got all kinds of violations. 1st for "coaching from the stands" apparently which is a stupid rule anyway. The rest seemed to be a fallout from that - racket smash and verbal abuse of ref by calling him a thief and telling him to apologize.
But props to Serena for compelling the crowd to stop booing and celebrate the Osaka's win during the post-game ceremony.
Man. That was bizarre.
Serena told McEnroe to hold her beer.
Overreaction? Probably. But being accused of cheating in the middle of an open final is bound to stir up such emotion in somebody who is competitive and cares about her own legacy.
She had a point.
Whatevs. It's a stupid rule anyway.
She told the crowd to stop booing, though.
The prevailing opinion right now is that she got dinged for something most people don't, and if that IS the case, then she can go ham. She's the most important tennis player in the women's game, ever. She' arguably more important and more iconic than any of the male counterparts, too. She's entitled to deference, the same as Jordan and LBJ get, for instance.
No, she has a history of a tantrums, including the ruling that led to Hawkeye, and doesn’t deserve leniency. I think she’s also lying, because all coaches coach from the box, and every now and then people get dinged. Sucks that it was a final, but regardless, before it happened and after it happened she got her ass kicked and she should have acted more professional.
Tennis is famous for histories of tantrums. It's their counterpart to the NHL's fighting. Leniency is deserved in the final - it cheapens the win of her opponent, and it's essentially like calling a weak foul with two seconds left on the clock of a finals game. It might be technically correct, but it's absolutely wrong on a fundamental level. In regards to professionalism, telling the crowd to stop booing IS professional, and managers are deemed professional when they get thrown out of the game for arguing, for instance. And if she's right in the statement that the guy lets the male players get away with statements like "you're a thief," then the guy should be barred from the sport.
No one showed up to watch the GOAT lose on a technicality that no one gives a **** about. Right now, I think you are, and I rarely think this....incorrect.
Part of the reason Federer didn’t break through until he was 22 was because of his anger issues.
Well, it's within the boundaries of the game to be awful to the judge, so it's within the professional conduct.
