Default Anyone else think Atlanta will gum up the works...

and NOT draft a QB in round 1? From where they are sitting, they will get 2 of the top 34 picks. I think they can definitely gamble and pass up a QB in round 1 and still land either Brohm or Woodson in the second round.

    A) These QBs aren't very highly touted

    B) They have a bunch of holes to fill

    C) Are there really 3 teams who need QBs in round 1? Baltimore may just be content with giving Troy Smith a shot. The Jets will likely go another route. Delhomme is expected to be back in carolina.

    D) Free Agent QBs should have some name power. McNabb may be out of Philly. The Browns MAY be shopping Quinn. Grossman, Culpepper, etc.

I really think they screw everything up and take a McFadden or one of the Longs. This possibility, along w/ Animal and OSU's Jenkins staying in school may put us just out of reach of the studs we may covet.

Well they got the Patriots head of college scouting as their new GM, so they will probably draft pretty well.

The more I look at it I'm pretty sure we'll not have the option to get one of the guys we want at #12. They'll either trade up or down (hopefully down).

Shanny don't screw this one up, you don't get many chances to draft this high.

    Atlanta needs name power.

They lost Vick, and that leaves them with...um...

    Yeah...

But Reggie Bush's face-plant in the pros may convince them that spending a pick that high on a RB - especially in a draft LOADED with em - might not be the smartest move. All-Day AP is an argument for the other side, but McFadden is more a special-use back like Bush (or at least has been used that way in college). I don't expect McFadden to go there, but they could decide that selling the name on the back of the jersey is more important.

They have needs everywhere, so whomever they draft in the first will fill one of those needs. Either of the Longs, or Dorsey, or...jeez, whomever. That job really sucks.

We could very seriously move back in the 1st. I wouldn't mind it. It depends on who we pick, but the idea doesn't bother me. We have a lot of holes to fill too. If the guy you'd take at 12 will be there at 18, then by all means try to get back to 18.

I'm glad we're not looking for a qb in this draft. I don't really believe in the ones I've seen.
    Grade: B-
12 – RClady, OT, Boise State – excellent
41 – ERoyal, WR, Virginia Tech – not a value?
    104 – KLichtensteiger, C, Bowling Green – excellent
115 – JWilliams, CB, Kent State - not a value
139 – RTorian, RB, Arizona State - not a value
148 – C Powell DT, Virginia Tech – journeyman type?
    183 – S Larsen, ILB, Arizona – excellent value
    220 -- J Barrett, S, Arizona State – excellent value
    227 -- P Hills, FB, Arkansas – excellent value

Free Agent: love the Woodyard signing.

If I were in Atlanta, the first thing Id do is start with the defense. The guys who were pulling the strings prior to my being there brought in Harrington and Leftwich.

So am I gonna spend my top pick on a QB that Im not sure is gonna pan out? Id rather trade down and pick at lesser risk areas. Areas where if things dont pan out, I dont get killed by dead money contracts.

The safest pick at the top imo is LT. If by chance, I have Jake Long rated at the top of my board at the position, and I choose him. The worst he will be is a dominating guard.

They selected Jamaal Anderson last year, and like Mario Williams, I think that pick will pay off more this coming year. If Dorsey is there, hes mine.

McFadden? No way. Not in your life time. Not after I picked another hoodlum and payed him boocoo monies to commit crimes on the side.

Without a franchise QB, the team needs Oline and defense to win. You gotta pound the rock.

    Trade down Atlanta.

Sure it's possible, we don't know for sure what the other 11 teams ahead of us will do. Even so if you're thinking we might have a shot McFadden I don't. I doubt falls out of the top 10 and the same with Jake Long.

I really don't see how Atlanta screws up the draft by selecting DMac or the Longs when the QB's coming out this year aren't elite prospects to begin with.

I didn't say it would screw up THEIR draft. I said it would screw up THE draft...as in leave less for us at 12 cuz we are NOT taking a QB.

    No...

A grenade went off under that team this year - figuratively speaking.

It’ll be years before they can affect anything…

    I highly doubt that.

QB's go down to injury all the time. Plus, who is to say that Anderson wasn't a '1-year wonder'? He sure threw a lot of interceptions last year. It would be extremely stupid to trade away Quinn because if they happen to trade Quinn and Anderson proves himself to be a '1-year wonder' then in 2009 the Browns will have to draft yet another QB. Now instead of messing with the future like that - it would be far smarter to keep Quinn.
