None of the major sites have come back to the US Market outside of Nevada and New Jersey... Offshore options like Bovada (formerly Bodog) never went away. These fringe sites like Americas Cardroom are growing in popularity but have a lot of technical issues.
You can still download Pokerstars free software though, and Pokerstars Homegames is a thing -- you can set up and host "free" games online... So there are a lot of these mini clubs online where you can jump into and pay under the table. Gotta trust the host though obviously.
My regular semi-monthly poker group is going to try the Pokerstars home game this week. No trust issues with those guys, but they don't like "real" poker as much as I do. Only one of them is really a player outside of me. They like to play a bunch of wild-card games you only see in home games, and get bored with straight poker, so I'm not sure how well it'll go over.
What online courses would you recommend to a complete poker rookie?

Free download. You can just grind until you consistently beat the computer, then it's time for irl competition. Best one I've found, especially at the price.
As far as books go, I like the ones by Harrington and Helmuth.
You asked for an online course though--I don't know about any.

The best all-round book to me is still the Poker Bible - Doyle Brunson's Super System. A little dated now as everyone has fully vetted the strategies, but still great stuff for beginners to understand, if for no other reason than to fully understand the "common knowledge" of the game. I.E. I know what everyone else knows that everyone else knows.
As far as online classes Daniel Negreanu has a Master Class online, but I haven't taken it, can't vouch for it.
Bonus codes are very cool, but they are very difficult to find because they are rarely released and secretly and I don’t even know where to get them, so I do not like them. Of course, it is much better when the site itself gives you bonuses without any promotional codes and I just know one of these, but I want to warn you that you need to be able to stop in time in order not to make a mistake and not lose. This is the site https://www.slotsandgames.com/bonuses/ which will give you bonuses without any codes that take a long time to look for. In addition, the site will provide an opportunity to earn extra money.
I still remember with horror how, when I was young, I lost my first paycheck in this game.
I still miss the damn game - the WSOP is on my list to do before I die thing
Anyone play variants other than No Limit?
I enjoyed Razz and seven card stud myself, but their popularities ebb and flow
I like Omaha 8/better. Enjoy Crazy Pineapple as well. Razz takes such discipline, you can play for hours without a playable hand.
But most of the time there's not enough folks playing those variants for a live casino to spread games like that. You might see an Omaha game, but that's about it.
