and i hope you don't think soulja boy represents all hip hop-- that's just the commercial garbage they play on the radio. . . it's like saying all football fans worldwide are like the drunken idiots with the bad darth vader costumes in the crack hole-- bad generalization. . . .
matisiyahu is reggae, not hip hop. . .
- John Elway“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”
...take out any and all hip-hop, rap, and (current generation) heavy metal and you'll meet the intent of this thread.
Now...I did make the hip-hop comment, but you've got some real guys that have actual talent that do that...The Roots, Jay-Z, the guys that Thnikka and this Escobar guy like have talent, and I just don't understand why they are the ones left in the wake, while Solja Boy (or whoever he is) and Lil' Jon take over the air waves with their crap.
There are also some talented heavy metal guys too, even the new ones. I just can't believe I'm the only guy out there that likes listening to good guitar work and musicianship...
Pretty much any decent heavy metal song shows it's classical roots. A lot of those heavy metal guitarists can PLAY. There's a lot of crap out there. But there is also a lot of really good metal too.
I'm sure the same is true of hip-hop and rap. I'm not really into it but Thnikka has pointed me to some pretty good stuff. To eliminate an entire genre just because you don't like it or understand it, isn't the point of this thread.

Till I collapse I’m spilling these raps long as you feel em
Till the day that I drop you'll never say that I'm not killing them
Cause when I am not then I am stop pinning them
And I am not hip-hop and I’m just not Eminem.
Specifics come down to personal opinion. Personally, I thought the movie was god-awful except for the last bit, I think Eminem is a lyrical genius and I like his music. He's degrading though, but catchy. I hate that.
It's like that stupid ******* Justin Timberlake song, SexyBack. I hate that song. But it is so damn catchy. I hear one note and it's stuck in my head.
It's running through my head now. Damn.

I just like to listen to good guitar music:
Ben Harper (excellent guitar player, but an incredible lap steel guitars, specifically Weissenborn guitars)
Michael Houser (Widespread Panic's guitarist who died - he was great at jangly southern-rock type riffs, and one-string solos, too)
Trey Anastasio (Phish - the dude is just friggin' amazing...his grooves are laced with Jazz and Arpegiated lines that are just amazing. Probably the best guitar player of this generation, and yet, hardly anyone knows who he is)
Tim Reynolds (Dave Matthews acoustic partner, the dude is amazing)
I could probably go on...Al Schnier and Chuck Garvey (moe), Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon)...those are the jam-band types I like.
I forgot Bill Nershi...String Cheese Incident...
MB -
Phish? String Cheese Incident?
You are a hippie.
