Default Do We Really Want to Become the Walmart of the NFL?

After seeing a thread that was started as a memorial to a former player who had passed away being hijacked by a debate over the Walmart-Broncos union, I figured that we should have a special thread dedicated to those of us who don’t think this is as good of an idea as advertised.

I remembered when Dan Snyder bought the now Washington Commanders. He made his fortune in marketing, as if that actually qualified him to run a football team. We’ve also seen what kind of a “dynasty” he’s build.

Mr. Walmart had his fortune handed to him by his daddy. His son-in-law did found an investment group, which gives him a similar background to that of Snyder, except his primary qualification for his current job may have been marring Mr. Walmart’s daughter. Or was his success at the investment company his primary qualification for marring her? In either case, let me know when Mr. Walmart actually does something that distinguishes him from Snyder. Until then, I’m not nearly as optimistic about the future as other members of this board. You might even go as far as to say I’m becoming a little bit “Jaded”

Short answer; No, you won’t win SB’s with part-time scrubs and sweatshop product.

Btw, I hope you’re not looking to make friends by speaking truth to power. That sorta shit is frowned upon in this establishment.

I hope to score some free sod the next time they replace field to score brownie points (according to Vic Lombardi, they were actually told by the NFL that the field was not safe to play on, but still, that doesn’t help my narrative).

Ok but what if they make Harbaugh the highest paid coach?

What if he's using us the same way he used the Vikings last year to get an extension with Michigan? What if Mr. Walmart waists too much time on a candidate that's never going to come here because he doesn't understand how the business of football works?

If Harbaugh wants to interview with you, you interview Harbaugh. To suggest that means they "don't know how football works" is absurd. Even if he is just using us to get a raise, you still talk to him at make him a big offer and force him to say no. Every man has a price.

What make you think Mr. Walmart does know how the business of football works any better than Snyder did when he came in and paid big money to a bunch of over the hill has beens? Just because he knows how to make max profit in discount retail because his daddy told him how doesn’t prove he knows how to build a SB winning team.

Furthermore, what makes you assume that Harbaugh will take $20 million from a franchises that is likely to fire him in 3 years after he fails because the FO is a trainwreck in stead of $10 million from a franchise with a FO which gives him his best shot a winning a SB?

I have no clue what they know about football. But going this hard after Harbaugh gives me a lot of confidence that they aren't total morons. He's the best coach on the market right now, and you do everything you can to get him. If he says no, so be it. That doesn't mean you're stupid for spending time going after him.

Would you rather they just settle for coaches they can safely get? I love that they are swinging on the two big dogs on the market. And if they say no, so be it, you move on to your next tier of guys.

You're wrong about the owner being handed his money. He essentially built the business with his father.

I sure wish we had a black tax cheat as owner instead. Would make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

    So stupid.

This isn’t about what I want, its about the reputation of our OF, which GM from the last 2 years is still here. The one that first decided to bring in a QB from his previous team to be the answer for ours, then gave up way too much for a QB who way underachieve up to this point and whom we’re stuck with for at least another 2 years. If its true that Mr. Walmart did ordered Patton to give Wilson that massive extension, then highly sought-after HCs and GMs are going to question if they want to be part of an organization that going to have a big boss constantly telling him/her how to do his/her job. Less sought-after HCs and GMs are more willing to deal with such meddling from above, but the most sought-after ones won’t.

Now, let’s talk about how Harbaugh built his SB team in the past, a great D and running game. What have we done right before the last 2 trade deadlines, trade away our best pass rushers for picks. When did he have his falling out with the 49ers? When they paid Kaepernick what an elite QB would deserve, resulting in them having to downgrade their D due to the cap restraints it put on them. Oh, and the 49ers led the league in rushing attempts every year Harbaugh was their coach because his O was built around an elite running game. The QBs job was to be smart and to take advantage of Ds that overcompensated to stop the run, which opened up the passing game.

So, why in the world would he want to be the HC of a team with a GM and QB who’s philosophy is completely incompatible with his, especially when the QB has never succeeded in an O that used that philosophy? Harbaugh’s success came when using the same philosophy that Wilson was successful, one in which Pete Carrol use “Beast Mode” instead of asking “Russ to Cook” like Wilson has been asking for.

I just did a background check on the Waltons. Sam Walton found Walmart in 1962, his son joined as an executive 7 years later. So, I recant that specific allegation.

As far as the kind of owners I'd like us to have. I'd prefer someone like the Rooneys. All 3 of the HCs they've had during the SB era have gone to at least 2 SBs and have won at least 1. They’ve done it by having 3 generations of owners doing the exact opposite of how owners like Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder run their organizations.

And our guys haven't even had a season yet and you're already denigrating them? They didn't hire the dumpster fire coach, they were saddled with him and remedied it quickly. Why do you assume this ownership group won't be somewhat like the Rooneys? Also, that bar is unfair as the Steelers are the only organization like that in the NFL. Even the Pats are not like that, they've been steady with one HC because they caught lightening in a bottle, it's not their organic philosophy like it is with the Rooneys.
