Volquez was one fo the untouchable prospects for Texas a few years ago, but I don't think Cincy could expect to get much more for Hamilton. he could put up some nice numbers, but his body will start breaking down before you know it due to the drug abuse. An outfield of Dunn, Freel, Griffey, Hopper and future stud Jay Bruce isn't bad at all. There is still the hope that they decide to work with Baltimore on the deal for Bedard. A rotation of Bedard, Arroyo, Bailey, Harang, Belisle/Volquez would be nice...although getting Bedard might cost them Bruce and Bailey since Hamilton is gone

The Reds will win it all again (I hope it is sooner and not later).

I wish Rick. Nothing would make me happier to see the Reds back in things again. Been a long drought.

Trade Junior for some players and it could happen.

Keep Junior now, his trade value at this point in his career isn't going to generate a blockbuster trade. I guess he could DH in the American League and extend his career.

Griffey, the supposed final piece to the reds to vault them into the playoffs for years to come. We where SO close. SO CLOSE! Can't fault the guy though, he could have been the best player ever had he stayed healthy......

*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

Wait til the trade deadline and see where the Reds are at. If there is a glaring need or if they are way out of the race, then trade Jr. His value will be at it's highest for some AL team (Boston or NY) to add a bat and will bring back the greatest reward.

Bring back Barry Larkin. That'll do the trick.

The Reds added six players to the spring training mix Friday.

None of them will get a lot of attention, but don't be surprised if the Reds add a pitcher who could be in the rotation from the start.

First, Friday's moves: The Reds picked up outfielder Jeff Fiorentino off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. They signed right-hander Jim Brower, left-hander Adam Pettyjohn and infielders Andy Green, Jolbert Cabrera and Andy Phillips to minor-league contracts with invitations to spring training.

But Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky said the club has not given up on adding a veteran starting pitcher.

Asked if the Reds were pursuing some of the big-name unsigned free-agent pitchers, such as right-handers Jon Lieber and Livan Hernandez, Krivsky would not talk specifics but said:

"You can assume that we've talked to a lot of guys."

Right now, the Reds are counting on Aaron Harang, Bronson Arroyo and Matt Belisle for the first three spots in the rotation. The last two spots would be determined by competition among Homer Bailey, Edinson Volquez, Johnny Cueto and Matt Maloney.

Free-agent activity has slowed. That might mean the price of free agents is dropping.

"I don't know," Krivsky said. "It usually slows down around the holidays. We'll wait and see."

Of the players added Friday, only Phillips and Brower played in the big leagues last year. Here's a look at the new players:

Fiorentino, 24, had brief stints with Baltimore in 2005 and '06. He spent last year at Double-A Bowie, hitting .282 with 15 home runs and 65 RBI.

Phillips, 30, hit .292 with two home runs and 25 RBI in 61 games with the Yankees in '07. He can play first, second and third base.

Brower, 35, is a former Red. He has struggled in the big leagues since going 7-7 with a 3.29 ERA in 2004.

Pettyjohn, 30, was 16-6 with a 4.07 ERA in Double-A and Triple-A last year for Milwaukee.

Green, 30, is a University of Kentucky product. He played in Japan last season. From 2004-06, he played 136 games with Arizona, hitting .199.

Cabrera, 35, has played 561 games in the majors but none since 2004.
