I'm not on their text service, but apparently Entergy just sent texts out to customers saying to expect power outages that could take an extended period of time to restored, due to Hurricane Laura. Probably sent to all of their Arkansas customers, but we (people who told me) are in the northern 1/3 of the state.

That didn't take long. Last update has it at a Cat 4 (140 mph)

Hurricanes have always fascinated me for some reason. That's one of the few things that gets me to watch the national news. As tragic as they can be, it really is just captivating to watch the coverage of them.

Agreed, same here. Would be nice if they only hit desolate areas and destroyed stuff with few people effected.

Having not lived near a coast for 40 years, I'm never directly impacted, but Michael hitting Mexico beach was the closest and that was a gut punch, as it's the town my grandmother, great aunt, etc. all lived in for a couple decades (the last of them died a few years ago), and I stayed at the RV park across from the destroyed high rise (ish -- by Mexico beach standards) hotel when I went to my Aunt's funeral a few years ago.

Default Weather Whiplash In Colorado Ahead: Record Heat To Record Cold, And First Measurable September Snow In Denver In 20 Years

DENVER (CBS4) – The first snow to accumulate in September in 20 years is expected Tuesday in Denver. Until then, record heat is expected Saturday and Sunday and it will be among the hottest Labor Day weekend’s on record in Colorado. Temperatures will reach the lower 90s along the Front Range on Friday which will be the 70th day in 2020 with a high temperature of at least 90 degrees. The record is 73 days from 2012 which will likely be tied on Monday.

Meanwhile, the current record high for Saturday (Sept. 5) is 98 degrees from 2019 and that record should be at least tied. A few locations on the Eastern Plains will be even hotter with 100 degrees possible.

Sunday should be the hottest day of the holiday weekend with high temperatures near 100 degrees in Denver. The record for Sept. 6 is 97 from 2013 and that record is almost guaranteed to be broken.

this thread makes me miss my buddy nomad. . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

Nice out--last day the neighborhood pool is open. Going to fling some plastic in a bit.

You should become a storm chaser and get as close as you can to the next major hurricane we have.
