Hello Forum Mods,
I beg an audience with thee and do so, humbly on my knee.
I have 2 ideas - both of which are rubbish, but if I don't share them with you using this medium which you all have gracefully provided - i have no right to whine or moan that no one listens to my ideas.
Idea 1 - When some one receives a ban, that causes significant unrest amongst the other posters - there could be a period of time where the discussions and rationale of the MODS are posted in open forum. This could then be deleted after 24 hours. I have no probs with most bans, but some i think are unjust -perhaps if there was greater transparency and we were aware of the reasoning - it may quell the civil unrest.
Idea 2 - Threads where bad language is not tolerated should be "opt in" - because i keep being inappropriate in the wrong forums without meaning to be. - Don't talk to me about self control of behavioural regulation, the issue is not with me alright - it is this damn system lol
Anyway those are my thoughts and my first venture into this thread - i hope it is in the right place
Thank you good sirs.
I think you are onto something with the first idea. If there is a ban that a significant portion of regular posters severely disagree with and it sparks a huge discussion like with WTE, then I think the mods kinda owe it to us to maybe explain it a little further and maybe even revisit the ban. There is clearly a huge disconnect with how the mods feel about banning WTE for 30 days and with how many of the regular posters feel about it. I guess I don't see why that disconnect can't be bridged a little bit.
This reminds of some old movie. He was charging comb tooths for his toilet repairs.
In regards to WTE being banned for 30 days - when you go to Banned/Suspended Members, here is the posted reasons for WTE's latest ban - Persistent baiting and personal attacks. Previously - WTE was banned on 7-10-14 for 7 days - reason - Multiple warnings about smack talk outside of smack forum.
When I was a mod, a member is usually not banned immediately for violating a rule(s). There are some exceptions to this, which, based on the reason(s) for WTE's bans, they did not fall within the "exceptions". I do not feel that the mods have to openly state exactly what WTE posted which would show his persistent baiting and personal attacks. Also, when I was a mod, a member receives pm's stating if it continues, they will be banned. Any member can report a post when they feel that post is violating a rule, and that report goes to the mods. The mods do not have the time to read every post in every thread on BF to see if someone is violating posted rule(s). Most of the time, members are reporting those posts.
