i'll start by naming my own favorites. . .

best male voice - marvin gaye
best female voice - billy holiday, dianna ross

most soulful male voice - jimi hendrix, bob marley
most soulful female voice - janis joplin

most unique male voice - louis armstrong, winston rodney (burning spear)
most unique female voice - grace slick

i did consider some others as well, but those are the ones i settled on. . . who are your favorites?
I love all of these vocalists (except grace slick, I don't think I have ever heard her). Jimi was great, although I hear that he despised his own voice...I never understood that.

No, he didn't like his voice, and that was part of him not singing until Noel Redding finally convinced him to on Are You Experienced? He backed up a lot of black R&B singers, including Little Richard in the Deep South, until he moved to London. His voice wasn't necessarily melodic, but he learned to use it with the Blues.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

I think Freddie Mercury had one of best voices. Too bad he was gay, dude could perform and sing. Tragedy death. Saw Queen in concert a few times. Fabulous show.

Queen's dynamic was great. They could harmonize as well, on top of Freddie's vocals.

Geddy Lee from Rush has a pretty unique voice.

You might like Coheed and Cambria Niner, their vocalist sounds a lot like Lee.
