    Default Help! Direct TV question

I accidently hit some button on the remote and now I have a gray screen and no programs...I hit the guide and I have a list but all they show is a grey screen when I hit select...what did I do?

I don't know anything about Direct TV but the Cable remote I had in New Orleans had 3 different programmings, A B and C. A was the only one with anything on it. If I accidentally hit B or C there would be no guide, etc.

Check on your remote to see if you have something similar and if so, just push whatever corresponds to A.

No idea what you're talking about. What I think I did was hit power...instead of on/off?
Which turns the receiver off first that can result in a gray screen. I get the menu but that's it. I can't get a picture. How do I get it back?

I've never had this happen. You might want to go to the setup and see if you have a good satelite signal, maybe go through the setup again.

I'm not sure. I did a search on DBSTalk.com and this thread talked about it, but I didn't see a solution:

try unplugging the receiver for 30 seconds and plug it back in. They usually reset themselves when you do that.

You can always try a RBR (red button reboot).

On the front right of your receiver, there should be a door that will flip down. Behind that door is your access card, there should also be a little red button behind the door. If you press it, it will reboot your receiver.

I didn't set it up. The satellite people did. I have no idea what I'm doing.

hmmm....then if that works do I have to do anything else? Reset the remote or anything or should it work?
I also had it set to record the Bronco game...do I reset that? I'm completely lost here.

No, you shouldn't have to reset anything else. Think of the RBR like rebooting your computer.

However, if this happens again, I would call DirecTV and have them send someone else to check your satelite alignment or replace your receiver. It doesn't appear (based on what I saw on dbstalk.com) to be a common problem, so you could have a receiver problem.

You can check to make sure your recording is still set up properly by pressing "Menu", then "Manage Recordings" and then "To Do List". That will list any programs setup to record. Then, hit the right arrow, then up or down to select the program to check, then click select.

Hope that made sense about how to check your recordings.

As for the receiver being a possible problem? I don't think it is...If I hit power instead of the on/off button on the remote (it shuts the receiver off first...and I think that's what happened...) It says on my remote instructions that that can cause a gray screen.

Yeah, the power button turns off and on the receiver but the On/Off button should turn off both your tv and the receiver if it's set up that way. I use the direct remote to power on my tv so often my TV will turn on but my screen will be black because it turned the receiver off. Through me for a loop at first too.
