Nix. I hope. I know that's not necessarily the popular pick but I really think it'll work out well.

Just get a QB that can play in the NFL… that’s it. Without that, this is another wasted season no matter who else we draft.

I think Wilson is our starter this year and we draft other positions of need

If we tank - we get a good pick next year
If Wilson turns into PFM - we are in the play offs
If we are mediocre - I bet SP scuttles the ship so we tank

For example - if we have a Miami style game this year, the white flag for the season goes up

We will trade back in round 1 - no qb picked, at least that’s my prediction (and remember I evaluate Cody Latimer as the next megatron, so I know what I am talking about)

I would be disappointed if we don’t come out of this draft with a potential starting QB, whether that’s Nix, Penix, Rattler, etc. The QB class for next year looks dreadful. This year looks very promising. Granted, a full half of these guys are gonna fail on at least their first team if recent drafts are any indicator, but as far as pure talent, this draft is loaded at QB and next season it’s just not good. Just trying to fumble through another season with replacements, busts, has beens, and never-weres is a mistake and will cause even more of the fanbase to lose interest.

2 years ago the Wilson trade kept fans engaged. Last year it was Payton becoming the HC. Ownership has to know that it’s gonna affect the bottom line $ if they put a team on the field with obviously no hope of a winning season and nothing fresh or new to hang preseason hopes on. At least a new drafted QB gives the fanbase some hope for the future. Wilson or Stidham don’t.

Gimme Wilson over Rattler every day and twice on Sunday.
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

If Wilson starts and stinks, fans will scream, “I knew he was a bust”, and will stop watching. If Rattler starts and stinks, the Broncos FO can claim “rookie” and ride that for the season and fans will keep watching for signs of improvement. That’s what a new QB brings. Everyone watched the Tebow phenomenon even though it looked like a train wreck until the last 2 minutes of every game because it was new and different. Wilson has started 34 NFL games and has never thrown more than 2 TD passes in a game. He’s also thrown more picks than TDs in his career - not even Drew Lock did that. I think we’ve probably seen what he’s got. Maybe Payton really is a genius, but I’m not putting any faith that Wilson is any more than a camp arm at this point. He likely won’t even beat out Stidham.

I know I'm the idiot fan, but I'm just the opposite. Wasting a pic on Rattler, or trying to pawn him off as the QB of the future, will make me lose interest a lot quicker than just doing an honest tank with Wilson. Third round picks have a lot of value, especially to a team as devoid of young talent and draft capital as ours. Those pics often turn into guys like Simmons, Meinerz, Browning, etc. Don't waste one on a guy who can't play dead in a western just to pacify the fan base for a month or two. If they need a shiny object, draft Joe Milton in the 5th or 6th. JMO.

More like receiver or tight end, but yeah.

Okay, may as well get that bold and fearless prediction on record so we can all laugh at it later. Not coincidentally, it dovetails nicely with my nightmare scenario, which shows you how much confidence I have in the Donkeys' "braintrust" these days.

Step One; draft Bowers or a WR @ #12. Because weapons! Obviously, all our QBs have failed over the past decade because we haven't invested in enough weapons for them. If it's a WR, I'll add a cherry on top. Rome Odunze will be there, and we'll pass on him with the same "logic" that led us to take f'n Jeudy over CeeDee Lamb. "We already have a big-bodied receiver in Sutton, we need to get a shifty guy who complements his skill set." So they'll take somebody like Xavier Worthy at 12-- then probably trade Sutton mid-season, leading to the need to draft a big receiver with a high pick next year. It just lines up perfectly.

Step Two; trade back into the 1st for Bo Nix. They'll give up next year's 1st to do it. We've already seen that Payton is impatient, and doesn't value draft picks. Short on picks last year, he still traded up twice, including dipping into this year's stash. I can feel next year's one just burning a hole in his pocket. In true Donkey fashion, we'll end up trading a top 3-5 pick for the 5th or 6th best QB in the class.

Step Three; Bo Nix sucks. There's a reason scouts and analysts rate him where he is. Fans will give up on him by November. Payton will give up on him in the off-season. Leading directly to. . .

Step Four; we need a QB! "But not a rookie. The draft is too much of a crapshoot." "They take too long to develop." "We need a proven vet. I want to win some games now!" Which leads us back to. . .

Step Five; Orton, Bridgewater, pick a name. We all know how this works. Then Payton retires, and leaves us with yet another gigantic hole to dig out of. As a bonus, we'll also get to watch a smart team like the Eagles or Niners trade our 2025 1st for a freaking haul. Or we'll trade it to the Chiefs for #32 this year, because we gotta have that 5th year option (which no great QB ever makes it to anyway) on Nix. Don't think Payton isn't arrogant enough to do it. And they'll use it to draft the next Aaron Donald or Von Miller, who will end up breaking Nix's neck. Lol. #MiseryPorn. Come on, Payton. Prove me wrong, I triple Dog dare ya!

You just had to bring up the pain, didn’t you? Let’s all recollect the last time we picked at 12 while we’re at it.
