Thread: Don't trade PS2. Don't suggest trading him. Your hot take is bad.

That's the thread. Your hot takes are bad. PS2 won't be traded for less than a king's ransom and there are no teams with the Rams mindset right now willing to pay the cost.

PS2 will still hold value in 2 years because he is a stud. If this team makes a playoff run, it will be because of having All Pro level players like a PS2 playing at their best and making a difference.

This is not a "window" for the Broncos. Recent moves indicate this.

When it's not a "window" you plan ahead and convert existing capital to future capital.

Nope. By the time we are anywhere near good he will already be one of if not the highest paid DB in history. A rebuilding team with the best CB in the league, or one of the best at any rate, is like hanging the mona Lisa in your trailer house.

I wouldn't do it because he's cheap and a great player. But...much better players than him have been traded.

In fairness to your point, it could smack of Detroit trading Darius Slay for a pick, drafting his replacement, and then watching him fail. Or Ten doing the same thing with A.J. Brown/Trey Burks.

On the other hand, that top ten pick would be used for a QB, directly or indirectly.

This is the overriding point.

The Denver Broncos since Elway retired have constantly been attempting to build a team that can win a SuperBowl, and that has been successful one time and it was great. However, this philosophy of building for a SuperBowl has also cost us every season accept that one and a handful of other seasons with middling playoff success. We need to break away from that thinking and start attempting to build a franchise that can be a dynasty and that only happens with FQBs.

Yep. Until Denver finally realizes that the most important thing you can do is to draft your QBOTF and only then worry about surrounding him with talent and spending on FAs, they’ll be doomed to repeat the vicious cycle of the dreaded QB carousel every other year. You can’t stop just because you fail, either. The Broncos are terrible about drafting a guy, expecting him to be the future but not developing him at all, putting him out there as a starter, then turning on him after a few games and pulling the rug out from under him while he fails then moving on to the next failed project journeyman.

If we draft a QB in the first round, also draft one later in the draft. It doubles the chances. Then, allow them a couple years to develop. If they fail, draft more QBs until you find one. I’m so happy that to this point, the Broncos have resisted the shiny objects that would lead them astray of the true path - Darnold, Minshew, Winston, Jones, etc. Let everyone else keep their trash. We already have a guy just like them, in Stidham, under contract. Why have 2 “bridge” QBs? I hate bridge QBs, anyway. They’re not really to keep the team competitive, they’re really only there to keep the huddle warm until the new rookie is ready to get his feet wet. Typically, that’s around the bye week when the team isn’t winning with the “bridge” (big surprise) so let’s give it a go with the rook. Why even wait? Rip the band aid off and get the guy some experience.

Most importantly, if he stinks early on, don’t quit on him! Coach him. You drafted him because of his potential, now get that potential out of him. Broncos are always too quick to give a rookie the hook because they still pathetically think they can “win” with someone else. Let him struggle, let him fail, let him build character. John Elway arguably one of the best to ever do it would’ve been a backup or out of the league if he played in the modern era. It took him a season or two under fire to develop into the great one. His rookie season was bad. His second season not much better. Josh Allen is the only QB I can think of who was given that kind of time to develop in the modern era. That’s what we need.

Chiefs and their zebra friends aside: Purdy was an UDFA, Hurts was a 2nd rounder and the Eagles invested heavily in their lines with their firsts historically, the Rams traded all their picks for Stafford Ramsay Miller, Bengals have Burrow but bad line has gotten him hurt, Tampa built a great roster and then added Brady.

The path back to a Lombardi is more following a blueprint more similar to the Bengals, 49ers, Eagles, or Bucs. None of these teams had fire sales. The Bengals had a solid defense the whole time, the 49ers built both lines, the Bucs had star WRs and kept them plus loads of defensive talent.

In real time, we are watching the Bears build the next powerhouse. They just re-signed their CB.

All those teams had QBs first then built around them. The Bengals were horrid when they drafted Burrow (hence why they got him) and still horrible after (how they got Chase the next year). They still haven’t won a Super Bowl. Their window might be starting to close a little right now, too. Tyler Boyd is a FA and Tee Higgins who they franchise tagged is demanding a trade. Burrow is coming off an injury. I’ll see how this plays out before we crown them. They’ve let lots of defensive players from the SB run go. Do you think it makes any difference if they still have Burrow? No. The entire team could turn over but as long as they have Burrow, they have a chance.

The 49ers lucked into Purdy. C’mon you can’t use them as any kind of model of anything. They traded a bunch for Lance who wasn’t good then got stupid lucky that Purdy was better than advertised and was a late round gem for them and dumped Lance on the Cowboys. Let’s see how their team works out now that they can’t afford to keep their star players on second or third contracts anymore. Armstead gone, Aiyuk wants out, Gregory and Young were busts for them. Is Purdy the long term guy, or just a guy who has strung together some good stuff in the perfect system? We’ll see. But still, it’s about Purdy and Samuel and Kittle and McCaffery then it is about that defense.

The Bucs hit paydirt only because a HOF QB became available and chose them. Yes they had a solid roster, but they went all out for Brady. Look at the roster before they signed Brady and then after. They traded and drafted for a bunch of star players to surround Brady that weren’t there when he got there. Had it not been for Brady, they never would’ve brought in the guys like Gronk, AB, Fournette, drafted Wirfs, etc. They spent a buttload of money to make Brady happy and successful and he delivered. The Bucs weren’t some magic team just waiting on a QB.

Hurts is still in the wait and see phase. Philly is an enigma wrapped in a riddle. Are they good or not? I’ve never seen a team that hot go that cold so fast, even without major injuries to key players.

The Rams traded their future for their present. They got their rings and are done. Yes, they made the playoffs last year on a late push but the NFC by and large was putrid last year. Just bad. The Bucs and Rams weren’t playoff teams, they kinda fell in because everyone else sucked so badly - the Bucs especially someone had to win the NFC South.

You’re right in that most of those teams didn’t have “fire sales” but they also hadn’t been on the QB carousel for 2 decades outside of 4 years. They didn’t trade 2 drafts worth of players for one shitbag that can’t play from the pocket and can’t read a defense. They had draft capital and cap space to reload. We have neither which means we need to create it somehow.
