Our record was solid in 2015 but they were close games. Only 2 of the 12 wins were by more than 7 points. During the 7-0 start, the team had a +5 turnover figure.
In hindsight the defense was all-world. At one point, the Broncos were 10-4 and had just lost to Roethlisberger, who dropped 380 yards and 3 TDs.
Take away a few lucky breaks here and there, and their record could have been much less impressive, and no home field, and so on.
I don't see this team as being a 2015 Broncos, feels like we are missing a Malik Jackson to have that sort of defense...
But the 2015 Broncos were closer to being mediocre than they were to being world-beaters. They just ended up with the result, and that's what it really comes down to.
My point is that you determine mediocre in hindsight, and it's hard to be sure along the way.

I think we match up well vs every team except the Browns who are like us, run the ball and play tough defense. The only advantage is Russ vs their backups. The Chargers are forever the paper tiger of the league. Herbert has established himself as a talented QB who is completely anti-clutch. He’s everything you want in a QB except the whole, “drive the team down and win the game in the last 2 minutes” part. He sucks at that.
Of that list, the Browns (who have their QB issues) are the only ones that matchup well with us. I totally think we can win out.

So happy for you Broncos fans, another wasted season full of nuanced wins that add up to nothing more than fleeting moments of contentment that we will literally all forget in a matter of days.
Perpetual mediocrity is so much better than building SB contenders.

Btw, that SB50 had an historically great defense full of Hall of Fame candidates, this defense ain’t that.
Some of you need a dictionary more than you need instant gratification.
The fact that y’all are stroking yourself over being mediocre makes me wonder if you know the definition of “loser mentality”, as well.

- John Elway“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

Dude, enough. Building a SB contender is getting PFM in the building. Then hope you get lucky with coaching and college talent and nab some FA ballers like Talib who help create a special culture.
We got SFP in the building. And Russ. Although Russ ain't PFM. Still, he's Russ.
The "building SB contenders" sounds super vague to me.
I think we all want a legit QB, but 2015 proved it's not essential.

If this is some kind of guilt trip about us being happy we’re playing winning football and not tanking for a pie in the sky QB prospect who has more a chance of busting than of being the guy we hope he will be, then you can save it. There are so many potential starting QBs in the next draft class that just because we aren’t drafting top 5 doesn’t mean we won’t have a shot at one. Draft projectors are wrong more often than they’re right.
The future of the Broncos is not solely based on whether we get Caleb Williams or Drake Maye. Williams in particular is showing all kinds of warts. People were talking about him being a generational talent. He’s not. He’s another short QB who has to scramble around to make plays which looks cool in college when he’s the most gifted guy on the field. Dude is gonna struggle in the NFL. He’s not the next Mahomes. He’s the next Kyler Murray at best.
Having a top QB prospect means shit until they actually perform. Justin Herbert is the perfect example. Folks lap up that dude’s ball sweat because he puts up numbers, but he’s 4-6 with a healthy offense because he just doesn’t make enough plays to win games. He’s not clutch at all.
So, what does it take to build a Super Bowl contender? Do you have to tank and tear everything down and start from scratch? Did KC? Did Philly? Nah, KC finally got a good coach (just like the Broncos just did) and Mahomes worked out for them. Mahomes isn’t winning games for them this season, though, it’s their defense. How about Philly? They got lucky with Hurts and they’re well coached. They didn’t completely tear down their roster and formula after their Super Bowl win and the Wentz debacle. They did a little reloading and got back to work.
Which teams needed to tank and have a complete rebuild to become Super Bowl contenders? List them. I’ll wait.
