Default Wil Lutz is our new kicker

Feels like it deserves its own thread.

Predict. Payton definitely got his boys.
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

LMAO such savings we got by getting rid of McManus. We ended up trading for a kicker coming off injury who performed worse then McManus

I don’t think it was ever about the savings entirely, certainly was a part of it though. I bet there was something behind the scenes we may never be privy to. For instance, we know he was very vocal about wanting chances at long ass kicks and was pissed when he didn’t get them. Any chance he and SP had a chat about his sideline demeanor on tape during those moments and SP wasn’t comfortable with his answers?

I’m entirely making that up, just saying that it could be more than simply money/performance, it could involve attitude, etc as well. There’s also no denying that McManus’ accuracy has slumped, little by little, over the past few years. He might be able to turn it around or maybe the coaches felt it was a decline they expect to continue.

No idea…. I don’t know that Lutz is the guy to fix it. I have a feeling we wind up with another kicker on the roster at some point this season and a different kicker altogether next year. If we wind up, next year maybe, with our kicker for the next 8-10 years then great.
