Default Jaguars K Brandon McManus buys ad in Denver Post to thank Broncos fans

Brandon McManus will suit up for a new time for the first time in nearly a decade when he takes over as the kicker for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023.

But before he gets started in Duval, the longtime Denver Broncos kicker wanted to say farewell to his former city. McManus took out a full page ad in the Denver Post on Sunday morning to thank Broncos fans and more than 100 team staffers.

Regardless, without McManus, Broncos don't even make it to SB 50. I get it's business, but the Broncos should have him in the Mile High HOF. Dude was money for quite a while. Just saying.

Yes....Hey Brandon we want you take take a pay cut, No? okay were gonna cut you. So now that Brandon is gone and FA and draft are around the corner lets scout kickers. Oh wait we didnt do that. We waited, ignored needs in both FA and the draft, like OL depth. Panicked when we needed cash for a NT and said OL depth player and reacted like always. Now in august we will pull some kicker of the scrap pile and the majority of you will be bitching about our kicking game all season.

Its not bad to move on from him at all, or even get savings for the cap if you have a plan. The timing was dumb is what it is. If they wanted to wait till June 1st for 4 mil they aren't very good at his.....There is no good option available at the moment and in august were looking at losers of kicking battles. Its just dumb period. The 4 mil isn't worth getting a guy like Maher in for a kicking game or a loser of kicking battle in august. If thats the plan, then we suck at roster building of which Paton has shown some serious cracks in.
    Denver's 2024 George Paton Draft/FA plan

    RD3- QB Spencer Rattler, SC
    RD4- CB Josh Newton, TCU
    RD5- S Reggie Pearson, OK
RD5- C Michael Jurgens, Wake Forest
RD6- K Jonah Dalmas, Boise St

And sorry, I don't care how you frame it, 77% from 40 and under is awful. Just really, really bad. Blocked kicks are partially on the kicker. You have to elevate the ball to avoid that.

And 2 missed XPs is bad too. No excuse to ever miss those. It's a 35 yard kick from right down the middle.

Ultimately, I think his contract is why he is gone. On the cheap, he's a better option than anyone else available. But for 5 mil a yea cap hit, you can't have a kicker that bad. If you're gonna have a shitty kicker, have a shitty kicker on a minimum contract.
He was 87% from 49 yds and under. If you think 2 missed XP's is bad were staring at options like Maher for our kicking game next year or losers of camp kicking battles.....He was 77% overall and that was because he whiffed it from 50-59 yds. going 5 of 13. Its fine to move on and upgrade, it even makes sense here, just not now. The problem we have currently is there is no upgrade out there at the moment.

He was a bottom 5 kicker last year. Hard to do much worse, and if we do, at least we won't be forking out 5 mil for it.

It’s not disrespecting his past to be honest about his more recent past

You say this but when our new kicker(because there is only shit out there) cost us games because he cant make a FG reliably from under 50 yds. We will see if its worth it.

We lost multiple games by 3 or less last season in which McManus missed a FG, so it would be no different?

Default Former Broncos kicker Brandon McManus hoping for 'equally great run' with Jaguars

By The Associated Press May 31, 2023 1:09 pm

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Brandon McManus started planning for the next chapter of his NFL career years ago.

McManus would regularly seek out opposing special teams coaches during pregame warmups and introduce himself. He figured making contact and conversation might come in handy down the road.

It did. His exchange with Jacksonville’s Heath Farwell a few years back in Buffalo and again last year in London made it much easier to cold-call Farwell last week after Denver surprisingly dumped McManus and his $3.75 million salary.

“I started talking to the coordinators a few years back and trying to build relationships with them,” McManus said following his first practice with Jacksonville on Tuesday. “You never know when the time will come."

He definitely didn’t see this change of address coming. McManus was admittedly blindsided when the Broncos told him they were releasing him after nine seasons that included a Super Bowl title.

“I don’t know what changed,” said McManus, who will wear No. 10 with his new team. "I had a great run there. Hopefully I can have an equally great run here. Kickers can play a long time, so I’m excited to be here and in a place that is up and coming."

I'm not saying it's wrong to ditch McManus and save some money. But the probability that we will find somebody cheaper and worse is high.

We have been lucky to have had a lot of stability at the position over the last 2+ decades.
