Yeah based on reports it sounds like we would have taken a 3rd for him and there were no takers.
As I've said in other threads, I think Payton really wants different player archetypes out there and he sees Patrick and Sutton as having redundant skillsets. So when you factor in that they're both getting paid well, it makes sense to try and trade one of them.
Its unfortunate about Sutton but the injuries just keep piling up for him. Probably a big reason why Mims was drafted to begin with.
Sutton and Patrick fit the Michael Thomas mold, I’m not so sure that they don’t fit Payton nicely. I think CS and TP will feast if healthy, and if Wilson doesn’t suck monkey nuts again.

I am fine with having that money tied up at the position with those three. I have faith in each one. I also like it when a team has the ability to exploit defensive weaknesses, like the weak link in a defensive backfield.
Just need to tighten up the protection...or play to RWs intrinsic mobility.

The room will certainly look different in the years to come, which is why they drafted Mims. They're going to use this season to see who fits in Payton's offense, which was always the best plan IMO. For Jeudy, I think getting a coach who will not put up with any diva crap is likely going to be the best thing that could have happened for his career. Melvin Gordon's dumb ass wouldn't have made it through the first month under Payton.
- John Elway“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”
Depends on what they wanna do on offense; aside from Portis and Davis all of Shanatan’s RB’s were redundant. If Payton wants a diet full of Michael Thomas slants then Sutton and Patrick fit.
There’s no such thing as too many Edge rushers, or man-to-man CB’s.
An argument could be made that the Broncos Edge rushers all lack the ability to set the Edge in run game, which I suppose would make them redundant but if they all make some impact in pass rush no one is making that argument.
Otoh, the Broncos have been stocking the S and ILB positions with redundancies for years. I just made your argument for you, you’re welcome.
