I'm not familiar with some of these bands like The Sweet. In fact I've never heard of them, fwiw. And that is cool with me, I'm just some dude. I figure they are some amazing band just like the Beatles.

I've been coming around to the idea that Zep might be goat.

Whitesnake I don't know except they were hair metal with at least one hit song. I just haven't listened. Not judging.

Surprised not to see Iron Maiden.

I actually kinda like the list despite how you must have mis-fingered the mouse when you were dragging the Beatles.

    Lol,

The Beatles was a conundrum. On one hand they were/are very popular if not the most popular band on the planet. HOWEVER, my thinking was that their influence was larger than their popularity (IMO). So while it may look like im dragging them im really not. I had the same problem with Sabbath.

As to Maiden and Priest, both are very heavily rooting in metal so i decided to leave them out of this equation.

And as to The Sweet, you have heard of them but probably didnt know they sang songs like these.

I just used the bands you had. I'd add some different ones, I think Siouxsie is in the mix personally as an influential band. I'd add Maiden for sure, I'm not hung up on genre labels. If it was an R&B band, that would be fine too.

    Fun stuff.

As far as modern bands go, Coldplay is an international institution at this point. They're in the second tier.

I like Duran Duran's most famous songs, but did they just have a lot of good singles or do they have a solid catalogue of albums?

ELO is def niche. Niche is not a bad thing though!

Based on hits? You seem like a based on hits and vibe and 'what does rando on the street think?' kind of guy when you make these value statements.

I like Coldplay. I initially was ready to cosign, and still might, but I also think due diligence is in order.

For example, I loved Rush of Blood and Parachutes. But X & Y was sorta boring at the time is what I remember. But it seems that other people like that album so maybe I was hasty. I get hasty and impatient, so that's a thing.

Have you gone balls deep into the Coldplay discog, or is this based on the hits?

I don't really **** with a lot of this stuff, so I think I can provide a lot of commentary in terms of influence and reach. If it hits me, if I know about it, if a guy who mostly ****s with Rap, Hip-Hop, Metal, etc. can feel it, then that shit is potent.
