We were number 1 in punts too, so the defense did not have much of an opportunity to rest either. Gregory so far has been a dud signing, but hopefully he is able to have a restful offseason and come back into a career year. I think his contract is set up so that he can be cut after this year, and that seems to be the direction things are heading. The few snaps he played, he looked pretty good. Getting into extracurriculars after a game you give up 50 points is pretty boneheaded.

Browning looked like the real deal last year. Bonitto is entering his second year, and that's usually when pass rushers have hit the weight room enough to hit their stride.

Hopefully Randy Gregory can benefit from the stability of someone like Payton... He was off the rails last year, no accountability. Him being healthy and engaged is the biggest key to this group turning a corner. I'm not holding my breath on him playing a full season though given his injury history and play style.

Again, before his injury Gregory was a beast, he was better than Chubb had ever been.

I’m not understanding why people ignore that.

The guy is a matchup nightmare - a total beast. He's fun to watch. He's also a bit of a headcase who has a history of taking bonehead penalties, and has averaged 9 games played per season over his 6 year career and 20+ games suspended. I think it's fair to acknowledge both angles.

When his name comes up it’s usually to mention that he’s a dud or a bust, a wasted roster spot, always injured (which isn’t entirely true).

Yeah, unfortunately he hasn't played more than 12 games since 2018 - so at some point his issues outweigh his production... But I think you're right to point out that he is an absolute difference maker when he's healthy and playing. Just gotta find a way to keep him available.

His issue staying on the field has mostly been suspensions, for all we know he could be injury prone but suspensions have been his Bugga-boo.

Man Browning and Bonitto really could thrive in this system. We just have to keep guys healthy. I also expect a pretty substantial jump from Cooper this year if you can stay healthy. The big thing for us obviously is just going to be keeping guys in the rotation.

Traded Chubb for Sean Payton, at worst that’s a wash but without hindsight it’s a sweet deal, imo.

Bradley Chubb got a hundred million dollars at immediately headed to IR. He's another tale of a guy who has a lead playing ability but is continually let down by his body.. I just went back and looked at the impact that Payton had in Brees. The jump in play from San Diego to New Orleans was astronomical. NFL Network named Drew the greatest free agent signing ever and all I could do was think about the impact that Sean had on the majority of his career

Drew Brees was Meh in San Diego, for some reason people think he was an elite QB back then and he simply wasn’t.

He wasn’t supplanted by Phyllis because of the shoulder, San Diego planned on moving on and the shoulder gave them a bigger reason

Yeah his contract was expiring and Phyllis was a better prospect.
