Default Our lack of a pass rush and no FA fixes

I’m concerned about our biggest Achilles heel last year, a non existent pass rush. Even before Bradley Chubb was traded, he wasn’t putting up the pass rush we had hoped and once he was traded, we got nothing from our Ends or our Rush LBs. now going into next year, I don’t see how we are going to generate any sort of pass rush from our unit. We have guys who we will rely on to get us pressure (Gregory, Bonitto, Browning, Cooper, Allen) but I just don’t see it. Most of those guys have injury history or we just meh when they were on the field last year. Please help me feel better by letting me know how we will generate the pass rush next year. Am I missing something that was already addressed on this forum or is there something in the works for next year that I am not aware of?

Despite all our woes last year we were ranked 9th apparently in pass rush and 10th in rush. Maybe it doesnt look fancy when you arent getting a lot of sacks but according to this we were actually one of the better teams last year.

It will fall on the secondary to help create coverage sacks and the scheme to manufacture some pass rush. Dre and Chubb are gone. Those are big time players. It will fall on the offense to create leads and put the defense in pass rush scenarios.

Like North noted above, we weren't terrible against the pass last year, we were above average. I expect Bonitto to take a step forward, hopefully Gregory can stay healthy, and hopefully we improve. I don't see any reason currently to think we'll do much better, but I don't think we'll do worse. Another reason we didn't do better last year is we rarely scored, teams didn't have to throw much to beat us, and on top of that they could dink and dunk when they were throwing as they could always take their time. If we can build leads, or at least put some pressure on the opposing team via the scoreboard, things get better for a pass rush.

We shall see... I'm cautiously optimistic.

You had some pass rushers who got dinged; that’s big facts

Man, I love how careful you are being about never using improper possessives.

This isn’t meant as snark, but I can’t tell if you’re serious. I am scared and checking my grammar.

You often use, not sure the grammar term, but "you" and "yours" types of pronouns. This was so close to personal possessive like "our" or "my" type pronouns. I got worried is all.

Thank god for stats, otherwise we’d be stuck with reality.

Another thing about last year’s pass rush that nobody is talking about is Evero was still using Fangio’s system which rarely blitzes. The “more guys in coverage”, bend-don’t-break defense typically doesn’t get a ton of sacks it’s mostly designed to force turnovers (although we didn’t get many). Pressures yes, sacks no. Now that we’re going back to more of an attacking Wade Phillips defense with more man coverage and blitzing will likely yield more sacks provided it’s used correctly. Guys like Von (and Gregory/Browning) with the speed/power to beat single blocks thrive in that type of system because they don’t get doubled as often. Von had career years in that system. Hopefully, we can get back to that.

We were 8th in Ints so the defense did its job.
