    Default Doors - GAH Week 13 - 2.4.23

Who has seen The Doors movie? I bet no one in a while. The Doors haven't really been front of mind since then, it seems.

I've worn out a 2-CD greatest hits thing. I never did the albums.

My guess is that The Doors are that kind of band--the kind with about 120-150 minutes of high quality content.

    But let's find out!

I am going to enjoy listening to their catalog. The keyboard player, I forget his name, is a treat.

Jim Morrison was a cringe, drugged out, pretentious, hippie a-hole loser.

    They have some bangers though.

You aren't a fan of Morrison's poetry then?

During his lifetime, Morrison constantly pushed for recognition as a poet-prophet. You need only look at the lyrics of songs such as “Unknown Soldier”, “The End” and “Riders On The Storm” for proof of his enlightened perceptions. Lyrics from “Riders” actually complete the stanzas of “The Hitchhiker” – one of Morrison’s most-read poems, which addresses the fragility of human life. In 1969, he self-published two separate volumes of his poetry, before moving to Paris in 1971 to escape his celebrity and focus on his literary excursions. He strolled around the city alone, wrote in Café De Flore and Les Deux Magots and generally just eased into a more idyllic French lifestyle.

The Doors, despite being zeitgeist anti-heroes, still have 10 million Spotify listens each month.

    The Beatles have 27 million.

The Doors aren't just some scrub ass scrub.

This is legit Pokemon a new challenger has arrived territory.

Has anyone ever heard this song?

My son told me that China needs to stop setting the night on fire. Once you hear it, you can't unhear it.

    These dudes were F V K K I N good.

Even dreamboat Michael Hasselhof lead singer prophet wannabe guy. He was a solid vocalist, put him up there with the most epic frontmen.

Who really has more bangers, The Doors or Nirvana?

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" vs. "Light My Fire"

one of them was a Billboard #1 song, the other song peaked at number six...guess which one?

    Light My Fire
    Riders On The Storm
    Break On Through
    LA Woman
    Roadhouse Blues
    Love Her Madly
    Touch Me
    People Are Strange
    Love Me Two Times
    Strange Days
    When The Music's Over
    The End
    Hello, I Love You

    vs.

    Smells Like Teen Spirit
    Come As You Are
    Lithium
    Heart-Shaped Box
    Something in the Way
    Drain You
    In Bloom
    All Apologies
    Dumb
    Rape Me
    About A Girl
The Man Who Sold the World
    Lake of Fire

    13 vs. 13, close call.

They're legit contenders, IMO. Ray Manzarek was the keyboardist.
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

I dunno. Pretty sure I wore out the same GH two-disc you did. I was decades late to the early rock party. The Beatles and Hendrix are probably the only ones I really did any excavation on.
