Thread: Legendary basketball coach Bob Knight dies at 83

Bob Knight, the sixth-winningest coach in Division I men's college basketball history whose Hall of Fame career was highlighted by three national titles at Indiana -- one an undefeated season not since matched -- and countless on-court outbursts, died Wednesday, according to his family.

He was 83.

"It is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington surrounded by his family," the Knight Family said in a statement. "We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as Coach requested a private family gathering, which is being honored. We will continue to celebrate his life and remember him, today and forever as a beloved Husband, Father, Coach, and Friend.

"In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Coach with a memorial contribution to the Alzheimer's Association or Marian University."

Two favorite Bobby Knight moments.

1) as Indiana coach, he's being interviewed after practice and the young reporter asks the standard non-question question expecting a word salad answer and Knight says "wait. Let's stop this. Start over. Ask a better question." The reporter then rephrases the question better and Knight goes "Hey, that's really good! (about the question) Reporter: "You liked that?" Knight: "Yeah, much better! Much better." then proceeds to answer the question.

2) as Texas Tech coach, there was a time out and Knight gets out his eraser board to diagram his defense. The board is in the lap of the center who is just staring into space and not paying attention. Knight sees this and slams his fist right into the eraser board, scaring the heck out of the center. There was no audio, but you could practically hear Knight yelling "PAY ATTENTION!!" You can bet the center was focused after that.

He was one of a kind.

Honor his wishes and bury that man face down, so his critics can kiss his ass!!
