The Baltimore brass even admitted it; so now teams who need QBs are opting to not go after a guy who is at least on Watson’s level because they don’t want to shell out guaranteed money while pretending that Watson never inked that deal.
I wouldn't call one contract out of thousands a precedent.

If it wasn’t precedent, if it wasn’t such a big deal, why would the owners be so reportedly flabbergasted about it? They pulled ranks to collude against the next big QB deal since Watson.

QB contracts have always set the stage for the next guy getting paid.

    Oh well.

I get your point, but no owner (rightfully so) is going to fully guarantee a player's contract. I just doesn't make good business sense. Cleveland f'd up and no one else is willing to f up. It's not brain surgery.

I'll never understand regular people rooting for billionaires to keep more and more of their money away from people who aren't billionaires.

I don’t mind owners not liking the watson deal, It was way out there for a deal, Almost unprecedented. The Browns brass felt it was acceptable to them, but the rest don’t have to follow. It not like the QB salary isn’t going up every year at it’s usually stupid rate with each one signed.

And, let’s not forget, Cousins signed the first fully guaranteed deal years ago, and no one followed it until Cleveland and Watson.

They may become the norm…but I’m guessing it won’t be the Ravens, or with Jackson this year.

Why? If you had it, you'd want to keep it for your family, right?

    I'm confused by your statement.

So, if you were an NFL team owner, you'd just hand over money to players in a sport who may or may not actually play?

That's my whole point though, I'm not the billionaire, and never will be, so why would I be on their side? Sure, they want to keep more of their money, but myself as an outside observer, if the two choices are that the billionaire gets to keep more money tucked away in his account, or a pro athlete, many of whom come from generations of abject poverty, get a guaranteed deal that sets their grandchildren up for life, I'm rooting for the latter to happen. Billionaires further and further padding their accounts and keeping it away from everyone else is terrible for society and not something that anyone should be rooting for.

Jealousy is the worst form of hatred.

Those players will be just fine with the money they're payed to play a game. Guaranteed or not.

Any player worth his salt is set up for life with contracts that are not guaranteed.

I also dislike excusing bad behavior from the owners, and they’re set up, too. The players should be able to contract without collusion. And players want guaranteed money because careers can be short; the owners want protection from that which I get. But that makes the collusion that much worse, it unevens the bargaining field.

It’s pretty acknowledged, but okay, go ahead and be obtuse. What a joke of a post.

    JFC.

I'm not jealous of anyone. I am incredibly fortunate to have a great life and be in a situation where I don't have to worry about having the money to cover the day to day needs of me and my family. I honestly would not trade my life with anyone else's. I'm good.

I simply have empathy for the people out there who aren't as fortunate and who have their livelyhoods ruined on a daily basis so that people with more money than their grandkids' grandkids will ever need can add a few more zeros to their accounts. Obviously pro athletes don't fall in this category, so maybe Jackson isn't the best guy to make this point with, I'm just speaking in general terms that it's completely absurd to me that people who aren't and never will come anywhere close to being a billionaire root so hard for these guys to further pad their wallets. Just makes no sense.

The jealousy comment is just a saying. It wasn't directed at you, per se.

We're talking about a guy looking for a lot of guaranteed money playing a sport where careers are ended in the blink of an eye. I would never give someone a guaranteed amount of money before they've actually earned it. Cleveland was stupid for what they did with Watson. I think that's universally understood with most reasonable people.

If you want to delve into the other stuff in your post, that belongs in politics. I don't care if a billionaire makes more money or loses everything. Makes zero difference to me and my life.
