There's a documentary about the early years, I'm about to watch it.

I will at some point throw on some Van Halen. Feels like a Saturday afternoon cleaning the garage/car type of band.
Somebody Get Me a Doctor is filthy. Sorta like stoner doom sludge but with a little more ass-whoop. I haven't heard that one much.
ASIDE: Every year me and the homies in the hood who play disc golf have a tournament (called the EVH memorial) among ourselves and we play VH on my portable boom box. The tourney starts with each of us taking a long pull of whiskey.
So some of these deep cuts I've been exposed to without knowing the name etc.
Take Your Whiskey Home. Has a mega ZZ Top feel to it, but is distinctly VH. When I learned that it was one of their first originals, even though not put on track until their (3d?) album, that sorta squared.
Hear About It Later. Not familiar with it. Not sure what scales or modes Eddie is messing with, but it has a rad faraway sound to it. I love it when these guitar dudes go weird and mystic.
Mean Street. Not super familiar before this week. That fuggin bass, man.
Little Guitars. This one I remember from our EVH tourneys. I really like it. The drums stand out.
Get Up. I like what Eddie and Alex have going on, it's musically complex but tight af. Not my fav from the album but I'm enjoying the revisit.
5150 the song is fire. The backing vocals are super tasty and the chords are rad af. The drums cray legit. Was it about DLR? "Always one more / You're never satisfied / Never one for all with you / It's only one for me / Oh, why draw the line / Meet you half the way / And you don't know what that means" This ended up being my favorite song from 5150 from back in the day when I had that album on rotation. 5150, the album, is close to a "great" album, all the songs are pretty dang solid.
Girl Gone Bad. Like Mean Street, the BASS jumps out in the mix in the best way. The great bands, their worst songs on their killer albums are still awesome like this one. This is something I felt with Journey too.
House of Pain. Man. Don Landee knocked it out of the park. This is one of the best mixed/engineered rock albums of the pre-computer era. It sounds so damned good.
I'll make it to the rest later!!
Good cuts, spiker
