I pointed it out last year when it came to his QBR. Granted, he still is only in his 2nd season but thats pretty bad.
In his defense, Chicago had to be a bottom 5 team for him to land on given the lack of stability and support... But it doesn't look good for him.
And in my defense, I think GMs are way too risk averse in acquiring QBs. If your team doesn't have a QB, almost nothing else matters and you ought to be using just about every available resource you have to acquire one. Luckily that's what Paton ended up doing, but I can't get mad at GMs for taking a chance on the most important position in sports -- nobody knew that Josh Allen and Justin Herbert would be the next two superstars at the time.
Counterpoint, there's probably a good reason Fields fell out of the top 10. If you look at this last draft especially I think teams are wising up on not reaching for QBs whose talent they don't love.
Allen and Herbert definitely had question marks, but they both had A+ arm talent coming out. I don't think Fields was in their category there.
Yeah Fields is in that kind of dreaded in-between zone where he's too good of an athlete to be a later round pick, but he's also too raw to be a plug & play starter -- so do you spend a 1st rounder on him and commit to developing him or wait until next year and hope your draft luck is better? I can see how a GM can fall into that trap... And also, maybe we shouldn't totally kill these GMs if they whiff on a couple QBs since it's such an inexact science and a vital need.
PS2 has been a huge liability for 3 straight games and Fields has Bears fans excited.

I reference this post only because it's a jumping off point that encapsulates a lot of stuff. <3
There wasn't a good reason he fell out of the top ten. People are looking at his rookie year in the NFL and ignoring what he was in college. I read damn never every big scouting report on Fields. He has a big arm. For reference, it's a bigger arm than Drew Lock. You can pull up his highlight reels and see him hitting moon shots. That arm isn't Josh Allen tier, but he's got a gun on him. In regards to his mobility, well that was obvious. He was a five star recruit dating back to the high school days and was on par as a prospect for awhile as T-Lawrence.
Lawrence became the better prospect. Fields wasn't much off. He throws an accurate ball; he was accurate in college and did some big boy things behind center, too. Lawrence should have gone ahead of him. Zach Wilson has a marginally better arm and is literally worse at everything else. Mac Jones is a glorified game manager and isn't in the same category as Fields as a prospect. He would die in Chicago.
I want to highlight this: Everything that Denver fans have complained about and rightfully so the past few years are things Fields fights...but to a higher degree. The Bears offensive line is historically bad. Their starters are guys who are second stringers. His best WR is Claypool and he just rocked up a few weeks ago. His RB's are solid and Kmet is a decent TE prospect. In other words: he has the worst line in football and overall nothing at the skill positions. If this kid fails he has shown us it's going to mostly not be on him.
TL;DR - he is overcoming shit as a second year QB that Russ can't overcome today and if he was in Philly or Buffalo people would be talking about him as a future MVP.
TL;DR Remix - I don't think I was wrong about this kid.
The Plan at the moment:
Draft: Trade a 3rd and 6th this year to a team to move up and get a 2nd next year (this will happen).
Players I want:
Jake Ferguson (Jake Butt) or Jelani Woods or Jeremy Ruckert or Cade Otten (owen daniels) at TE- All 4th rd or later.
Troy Anderson LB 3rd/4th rd (yay Timmy!)
Neil Farrell, JR DL- run stuffer- bye purcell
