My problem is that Chubb was the guy that set the edge and helped us contain other team running game. Everyone get excited about sacks but the setting the edge and contain the run game is key in this 43 under scheme. The rest of the OLB are lite in the ass vs Chubb size and strength
"We saw it…. the hussars let loose their horses. God, what power! They ran through the smoke and the sound was like that of a thousand blacksmiths beating with a thousand hammers
They rush on to the Swedes! They crash into the Swedish riters…. Overwhelm them! They crash into the second regiment - Overwhelmed! Resistance collapses, dissolves, they move forward as easily as if they were parading on a grand boulevard
No matter how you feel about this trade … you’re right.

Yes, I'm fully aware this is the 49'ers pick. There's not going to be much difference between the two picks. It's not about making it work with Chubb, it's about value. That's all it is. Chubb isn't an all-pro that's making a name for himself in the NFL. He can be replaced and the organization gets value for him. And the broncos did "make it work." It worked out great.
BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE
I can see both sides, but I'm not a big fan of this. Getting the 1st is obviously very nice, but Chubb's a proven player who's just really hitting his prime. I get the numbers game from a roster construction standpoint, and the fact that we do have some talented depth there on rookie contracts. However, as Sid noted, Chubb is by far our best edge setter, and losing him isn't going to help our already shaky run defense. I'm not super excited about taking away from the one unit that's consistently playing well. At least we got solid value-- that certainly makes it a lot more palatable. Now Paton needs to go spend that pick on an OT, and I can live with it. And I will say that Chubb's injury history is a legit concern when it comes to signing him to a big extension. I'm not mad that someone else will get to roll that particular set of dice. And I do think Edmunds will make a nice addition to the offense. Murray (and Gordon- barf!) are fine between the tackles, but Edmunds gives us another guy who can get to the edges and function in the passing game.
- John Elway“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.
