Default Broncos Notebook: HC Nathaniel Hackett wants more physicality, better execution as Denver approaches preseason finale

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos' preseason loss in Buffalo may not have counted, but that doesn't mean it didn't matter.

And as Head Coach Nathaniel Hackett reviewed the game tape from a 42-15 loss, he noticed a lack of physicality that had not shown up in practice and that he's hopeful does not show up again.

That, perhaps, was Hackett's biggest message: that the lopsided loss must be used to improve in the future.

"It's an opportunity to learn from mistakes," Hackett said. "That's what you have to get out of that; otherwise, that whole game was a complete waste. I think that just for them, understanding what we're trying to accomplish mentally in each rep is so important and you want to get all that stuff out right now during the preseason. Hopefully we got a lot out during that game."

While Hackett was pleased that the offense "kept battling" and that the defense was able to get off the field, he saw issues in the team's physicality that may have stemmed from certain players overthinking their assignments.

At least he knows the game was bad……

I worry the starters will come out like that week 1. The packers got beat hard last year….

Aside from the poor tackling im not sure what it is that Hackett thinks was going to change the outcome of that game. The reality is our backups are scrubs and simply are not capable of competing with an opponents first stringers. If Hackett believes we have great depth he is dumber than i thought and that isnt good. Lets just hope that our starters are not near as bad as this.

This team is never as good as you think it is, nor is it as bad as you think it is. Hackett said too many times there was an alignment problem at the snap. If that’s true, then the Vikings game will show us if the coaches can, or know how to, fix it.

Man they were our second string and all very young players. Young players get into a downward spiral. Most vets will get them out of it. Leadership is amazing. They didn't have that on the field. I think they actually did amazing at first. They held one of the best Teams starters to 7 points in the first and managed to score 3. That's insane . Most people picked Buffalo to win it all. Cut them some slack.

Agreed. I was thinking something similar. Scored on two successive drives.

Funny, coach kinda said, the product we all got saturday, was pretty bad.

    Some of us agree.

No need to reinforce that it really doesnt matter, we all get it.

3-3 45 yards 1 td. Allen, looked good.

7 in the first 21 in the second.

Look I get it, people want to feel good about something, this game was not it. It was friggin bad...
