Default Derek Wolfe Signs One-Day Contract to Retire as a Bronco

Derek Wolfe came home to announce his retirement.

The Denver Broncos signed Derek Wolfe to a one-day contract so that the long-time defensive lineman could come home to announce his retirement. Wolfe did that on Friday, concluding a 10-year NFL career.

Wolfe stopped by Broncos training camp to interact with former teammates and fans after his big announcement.

"The gratitude that I feel for the organization as a whole and the city itself, the love that they showed me from Day 1, it's just been incredible," Wolfe said.

As Wolfe hangs up his cleats, let's take a trip down memory lane. Drafted early in Round 2 back in 2012, he was actually Denver's first pick in that draft.

Definitely, I wish he wasn’t as banged up as he was because he had a big impact on our DL so I always imagined just how much better he coulda been had he not been knocked up all the time it seemed.

Idk what else he could be other than a bronco. Wolfe was drafted here and won a ring here and produced for us injured and all. I wish he was more healthy because he’d a had a way greater impact

Manning was drafted a Colt and won a ring with them yet he considers himself a Bronco despite only be here for 5 years.

Default Broncos Camp Notebook: Derek Wolfe believes Denver has necessary pieces to win Super Bowl

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos haven't been shy about their championship hopes for the upcoming season.

During the offseason, Tim Patrick deemed it a "Super Bowl or bust" year, and General Manager George Paton said he would be "disappointed" if his team didn't have that mindset.

There's a long journey, though, between training camp expectations and hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. And following Friday's practice, the team heard from a former Bronco who reached that goal with a win in Super Bowl 50.

Derek Wolfe, who announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday, had a simple message.

"I told them, 'Look, you guys finally got the piece that we've been missing, and that's Russell Wilson,'" Wolfe said. "'Follow his lead, he knows what he's doing. Just embrace every day and enjoy all the time. Don't take anything for granted out here.'"

I came in here to see what GEM would say be she must be kinda busy.

But I think she'd say that DEFWU is a huge part of how SB50 worked out in the plus column...and for that, he's always going to be an all-timer. Dude is legend, and we can never forget what he did.
