    Default San Francisco 49ers QBs coach Rich Scangarello reaches 3-year deal to be Kentucky Wildcats' offensive coordinator, sources say

    San Francisco 49ers assistant Rich Scangarello has agreed to a three-year contract to become offensive coordinator for the Kentucky Wildcats, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel on Friday.

    Scangarello, 49, spent last season as the 49ers' quarterbacks coach -- his second stint with the team -- after stops with the Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos, with whom he served as offensive coordinator in 2019.

    He replaces Liam Coen, who left Kentucky after one season to become offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams

    Default Is new 49ers QB coach Brian Griese the man to develop Trey Lance?

    Adam Schefter
    @AdamSchefter
    Former Monday Night Football analyst Brian Griese is leaving ESPN to become the Quarterbacks Coach for the 49ers, sources tell @SethWickersham
    and me. Griese and Kyle Shanahan have known each other for years; Griese played QB in Tampa when Shanahan was on the Bucs coaching staff.

    Griese, is a former NFL quarterback who spent his 11-year career with Denver, Miami, Tampa Bay and Chicago. He won a Super Bowl ring with the Broncos in 1998 and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2000.

    He served as a commentator and analyst for ESPN's college football coverage in 2009 and was added to its "Monday Night Football" crew in 2020.

    This will be his first coaching experience at any level.

    Griese replaces Rich Scangarello, who left San Fran to become the University of Kentucky's offensive coordinator.
