Hackett had to show he has a vision for the entire team also, just not offense. Maybe he did, idk.
Fangio was a leader in the sense that the team seemed to respect him and continue playing hard for him. We all define leadership in different ways, but one of Fangio's few strengths was that he was a confident, decisive leader. Which tells me that leadership is only one piece of the puzzle, because Fangio lacked the rest of it.

Quinn may well be a good leader, but that does not mean that he will bring us the success we want. He couldn't do it with a superstar offense.

Offensively, the Falcons strengths were the offensive line and Julio Jones (who gradually slowed down after their Super Bowl appearance). Sark gets faulted for his performance after Kyle, but Dirk Koetter ended up being their Pat Shurmur and costing Quinn his job. The offense, that supposedly used to be the strength of the team, had overpaid talent not adding value to that side of the football.

The more I look at the Falcon's rosters during the time he was there, the more okay I am with Quinn. Terry Fontenot has had his work cut out for him since he took that GM job cleaning up Dimitroff's mess, holy cow...
Good post, and very fair. It’s been said that Dimitroff is more responsible for the weak Falcons defense than Quinn ever was.

Who on the list will do that?

If Quinn wasn’t a good coach, they wouldn’t have made it to the Super Bowl. It wasn’t all Shanahan. Quinn made chicken soup out of a chicken poop defense whose stars were such juggernauts as Vic Beasley and Adrian Clayborn. I think it’s unfair to give Shanny Jr all the credit for Atlanta’s successes and only hold Quinn accountable for their failures. That’s like giving Shanny Jr props for all of SF successes the year they went to the Super Bowl even though it was their defense that got them there.

Wins and losses are a team sport. There are lots of coaches out there who people clamor about who’ve never coached a team to a Super Bowl, even as a coordinator. John Fox, for example, gets a lot of ire from people for Fox ball or whatever, but he did coach 2 completely different teams to Super Bowls. Everyone seems to wanna suck on McVay’s crank all the time, but he’s got the most expensive/mercenary/non-drafted/non-sustainable roster in the league and he hasn’t won a Super Bowl. He got them there once and then his supposed unbeatable, innovative offense couldn’t even score a TD. He bombed out just like Shanny Jr and like, dare I say, Fox and Quinn. If McVay or Shanny Jr were available, I’m sure everyone would be pounding the table for them, though. Because they’re innovative? They have the same track record as Quinn right now.
i didn't say that shanny deserved *all* of the credit. . . but the year they went to the super bowl, they had the #2 scoring offense, and the #27 scoring defense. . . i just don't see how shanny and his offense don't get the lion's share of the credit. . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

The odds of a good OC getting plucked away for a HC job are much higher than a good DC getting nabbed, at least in today's NFL.

i've been pounding this table for years. . . the way OCs get snapped up in today's NFL, the only way you're ever going to have stability on that side of the ball is if your offensive system comes from your head coach. . . you can easily hi re a top flight veteran DC every single hiring cycle-- there are guys like vic fangio and mike zimmer just sitting out there, and those guys will never get hired away from you. . . such a thing as a quality veteran OC just plain doesn't exist, because every single damn one of them is already a HC somewhere. . . you wanna hire an OC, you got two choices-- some nobody who's held a clipboard for mcvey or shanny the last couple years, or some washed up loser like pat shurmur. . . those are the only options. . .

The more I think about the complete collapse of the Cardinals the more I’m convinced that we need the guy that Paton thinks is going to be the best coach of the team, regardless of which side of the ball he coaches. The Browns are on their 3rd coach in 4 years and missed the playoffs, and they also have a former #1 pick at QB. So getting the latest offensive whiz kid is no guarantee either.

Let’s get the best HC candidate. Hackett or Quinn, whichever one Paton thinks will have the best success. Let’s roll!

I dunno, I’ve read a lot on this thread that many here want an offensive guy only. Don’t get me wrong, I understand their reasoning and agree with it to a point. However, Paton wants who he thinks will make the best HC regardless of which side of the ball. So far, Quinn and Hackett seem to be the favorites on the list. Personally, I don’t care at this point, Quinn or Hackett, whichever one Paton chooses is good with me.

I’m saying we want Paton to get it right. I don’t know either, but I can understand why most Bronco fans are skeptical of another DC HC.

Yeah, hard to argue with this. Guys like McVay and Shanahan have most people thinking that the young, offensive genius is the way you have to go, which is funny since neither of them has ever won a Super Bowl. I’m guilty of thinking this way myself. So guys like Hackett and O’Connell and Callahan seem like more exciting choices than guys like Quinn. We’re just going to have to trust that Paton knows better than we do. The nepotism aspect concerns me a little bit though.

    Yeah. I'm looking for Walsh/Montana, Shanahan/Elway, Marchibroda/Kelly, Daboll/Allen, Moore/Prescott, Reid/Mahomes (& McNabb), Brees/Payton, etc.

I get that some dudes are good at staff harmony and productivity. But I just want a QB guru who is a legit mf'ing QB guru 4 lyfe. Doesn't hurt if they played QB and led the nation in passing yards like Marchibroda (Kelly's OC on the Bills) or Moore (who I am convinced is at least a Prescott-whisperer). I want that person, even if they are a specialist, because I am beginning to despair that the Broncos will be able to acquire it through some Tony Robbins cat who watches his QB-whispering talent move on to greener pastures.

I don't think I'm 100% right on this. It's just my preference. It's the type of entertainment I want to consume.
