You are now the Broncos owner. What do you do?

    1. Fire Below Avg Fangio, Fire the QB Whisperer Pat Shurmur.

    2. Find offensive minded coach. Doesnt matter if its Munchak or Shula for all i care. To finish season. Find Offensive coach offseason depending on replacement coach ability to lead team or not.

    3. Start Drew Lock, or Trade him.

    4. Trade back, stock picks.

    5. Draft Manning in 2025.

What do you think? What would be your plan?

Step 1: Get a real owner.

Until that happens, this franchise is going to continue to spin its wheels.

Well, a good owner lets the football guys make the football decisions. So I’ll say what I’d so assuming the GM I hired had the same opinions. I’d let this season play out, firing coaches now doesn’t really get you anything. At the end of the year I’d clear out the coaching staff and ideally bring in a younger, more modern and innovated offensive minded head coach. The GM and coaching staff would target some QB candidates and the organization would do everything possible, within reason, to get one of them.

    2. Get lots of cocaine and wear the same orange smedium turtle neck shirt every day
    3. Get a dart board with draft prospect names taped to it
    4. Hire Jake Plummer as my hacky sack coach and professional bro in charge of chilling the **** out

Yeah, the fanbase is in purgatory until we get another Manning or another Bowlen.

Lol. Basically what was said above. Feels like Paton is here to "scout" the team this year ahead of new ownership to see what we really have and shore up any deficiencies in the next draft and free agency period. We are setting the stage for a big FA Quarterback to just step in and take this team to the next level (Rodgers, Wilson, etc.). Hell if it's Rodgers, Paton and the new ownership might even let him pick the new coaching staff.

Step one, find an offensive head coach. Prioritize youth. Young coaches tend to be hungrier, have fresher ideas, and aren't retreads married to failed ideas. Unless someone like Reid becomes available -KC got so lucky with their timing- I'm swinging the bat plenty hard to get a great young mind. If there just isn't one to be had, then I'm throwing all the money I can at a proven OC and a young HC. People get mad, and this isn't bashing older folks, but the youth movement is what it is. A success.

Step Two: find the QB. I don't care how. Who is the best available? If it's a player in FA, then I'm making the trade no matter what. If the scouts are of the opinion that player A is the way to go, I'm going to do everything I can to get him. No more half measures.

Step Three: continuity is key. Unless a head coach and coordinator proves they're wildly incompetent I'm going to give them time. The only thing I ask is that they show they're worth the time. If the head coach goes all Vance Joseph? ****. Anything less than that then it's growing pains.

Step Four: I'm doing all I can for the QB. It might be hard because maybe I traded up for the QB, or traded assets to get the veteran, but the impetus is on us to make sure that investment is protected. Defense is winning less and less these day s. Guys like Brady when they're free, they go where the weapons are. PFM did the same thing. Buffalo got Allen and then traded for Diggs and signed Sanders shortly thereafter. Mahomes has Hill and Kelce. An aging Ben got Bell, Brown, etc. Teams that have the QB and the rest of the team -like Baltimore/Ten- have tried and often failed to add more weapons, but they're trying/tried for a reason.

Step Five: the offensive line gets it's own whole step. Great guards are available every FA like clockwork. We'll be getting some. At the very least you need a good LT. Smart teams dump a ton of resources into the the line. Smarter teams figure out how to get talent on the line while not going overboard with picks and FA cash on them.

Step Six: Pass rushers. The first few years = all about the offense. With that formula you're banking on scoring points, baby! If you can't dump a lot of cash into the defense then the bulk of the dollars has to be at pass rusher. Getting ahead and making a team one dimensional = giving the pass rushers a chance to eat!

Step Seven: monetize everything. Ensure that you can always spend up to the cap and market the **** out of everything. Also, strippers?

Your gut is right. The money follows the hype, and offense is the hype. A complete team will win, so it can't be all hype, but the hype opens a lot of closed doors. PFM was the hype. Defense can have hype too. But the media contracts and ownership influence of the direction of the league...it matters. Spectacular is the name of the game.
