Default Casa Bonita Purchased by South Park Creators

While its a tenative agreement until they can get it through bankruptcy court, this is just such good news for anyone who grew up in Colorado and had a birthday party at Casa Bonita when they were a kid. All they had to do was make the food edible and that place would not be in the shape it is. Sounds like Matt and Trey plan to do MUCH more than that, including remodeling and expansion while keeping the charm.

As a kid who lived in Western Nebraska/Western Kansas growing up, getting to visit Denver every once in a while, Casa Bonita was at the top of the list of destinations when we would go to Denver.

This is such good news. I hated the idea that it would disappear.

I had a sneaking suspicion when Governor Polis had an "emergency" Press Conference with the creators of South Park! lol

Trey even mentioned that they went there for a private party when Book of Mormon premiered in Denver and he wanted to dive into the water and they said, "The only way you can do that is if you were the owner."

It really was a cool place as a kid in the 80's/90's. My birthday is in November so I always remember cold days and hot sopapillas when I would go there! The food was just ok (mostly because they covered it in SO much cheese back then), but we would always rush through our food to go explore and it was just so cool. Do you remember the genie in the well? It was just a TV screen with a guy broadcasting from another room but it would talk to you. Freaked me out when I was like 5.

Hell, last time I went was about 8 years ago with my son and though the food is awful it was so fun to see him scream in Black Bart's cave when the gorilla came to say hi near the end. I still tease him about that!

The cliff divers was always my favorite part. If you could snag a table in that area, it was tremendous.

Too bad Celebrity Sports Center is now a Home Depot. That was another institution I wish was still around. Giant swimming pool, bowling, and a great arcade and fun places to eat.

Turns out this place had quite the diverse ownership group, including Walt Disney himself!

On November 15, 1959, The Denver Post announced that a “huge play center” was in the works for southeast Denver. According to the Post, the center was to include an eighty-lane bowling alley, a massive indoor swimming pool, restaurants, a lounge, and a health salon. The center would be owned and operated by Celebrity Bowling, Inc., a recently formed corporation based in Los Angeles.
While none of these activities were especially original, what was unique about the future Celebrity Sports Center was its ownership. The facility took its name from the fact that it was owned by a number of Hollywood celebrities, among them Jack Benny, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Burl Ives, Bing Crosby, Spike Jones, Art Linkletter, and John Payne. And there was one other major investor, whom visitors sometimes encountered at the site once construction got under way—Walt Disney.
Really cool history on the place if any of you remember it! http://buckfifty.org/2009/02/04/celebrity/

I think I've told this story here, but my go-to harmless lie whenever Casa Bonita comes up in conversation is saying that I was the gorilla cliff diver at Casa Bonita back in the 90s. Nobody ever quite knows whether I'm being serious or not. Happy to have preserved a Colorado institution.

We’ve never thought Casa Bonita’s food was that great, but I’m glad somebody is saving it. It’s like an emblematic landmark in a way in Colorado.

Ah! Cinderella City was cool. I miss the old malls, too, like North Valley and Westminister. Wasn't there a Showbiz Pizza near Cinderella City? Some guy bought some of the robots used at that chain and reprograms them to modern music on YouTube:
