He's probably referring to a handful of words/terms that weren't via vote/community discussion, but instead were part of a last ditch effort to save the politics forum, and eliminate the childish attacks and name calling and general cesspool that politics had become. That list of changes/no longer acceptable words were handed down by the mod team, BUT they were presented in a town hall discussion thread where the community had an option to discuss, object, scream, kick or whatever. So, while it might not have taken the normal form of "we are proposing doing x, y, z we would like feedback on whether the community thinks this is a good idea" type approach, it was something that was presented to the community where they could provide feedback.

I think at a certain point, and I think the mod team has had a VERY high tolerance, if we go long enough without acting like adults, they have to step in and treat us like children. I think there have been VERY few such occasions over the last 14 or however many years where that's been the case.
