They were not on a clearance sale. The original jersey's/socks came from a defunct college bowl game. The Broncos 1st uniforms were used college bowl game duds. I'm assuming it must have been like an East/West shrine game type of bowl game. There were reports that those original uniforms didn't fit all that well either, go figure.
FWIW, I love our Orange jersey's, just not when we play in the Super Bowl. We have had enough beat downs in those.

The Broncos' first GM, from 1960-61, was Dean Griffing.
He did the best he could with his budget, which would have had to be stretched to be called limited. He bought the first uniforms, the fabled mustard-and-brown unis, used from a defunct Arizona bowl game, the Copper Bowl.
