...while some 8-4 team from the SEC will bellyache and claim to be "snubbed". Nah. The non-5s will never get more than one place at the table.

A 12-team playoff means Alabama and Ohio State will never again fear getting left out of the mix.

This will screw up the other bowls unless the first-round losers still get a chance at a New Years Bowl. Otherwise, we'll see more 5-7 teams playing in the Humanitarian Bowl or the Famous Potatoes Bowl or the Fight Hunger Bowl. That's fine. A lot of bowls need to be dropped.

Notre Dame could fix their own problem simply by asking the ACC to seed them in the ACC standings. Then they could make the ACC Championship Game and make the Top 4 by winning.

Here's a wrinkle. Consider the Power 5's conference championship games to be the de facto first round games. Then seed with the five conference champs and the survivor of the non P-5 with the top two schools getting a first-round bye.

So, let's say you took 2020 as an example. Then Oregon plays Ohio State and Oklahoma plays Cincinnati. Winners get Clemson and Alabama, respectively.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

In a 12 team playoff there will absolutely be years where multiple non-P5 teams get in. It literally would have happened under this system last year as Cincinnati and Coastal both finished ranked ahead of Oregon.

As for your wrinkle, that's objectively worse than this proposed system in every way. You could have a scenario where the two best teams in the country are in the same division and one gets totally shut out because, reasons? The current proposed system rewards the 6 best conference champs, and gives the best teams not to win their conference a chance still.

As for screwing up the other bowls, who cares? Bowls are basically glorified practices at this point given that none of the high draft prospects play in them. It's completely meaningless if a 5-7 team makes a bowl. They don't matter regardless.

As for Notre Dame, that point makes no sense. Why would the ACC seed them if they aren't a full member of the conference? To screw over the schools who are actually full members? If ND wants a bye, they gotta fully join a conference.

Just do it. Tired of hearing the whining of CFB playoffs compared to other college sports.
